Yes JBryant..... I know exactly what you mean ...because of our "affliction" we will never see what the others see. But then, are they REALLY seeing what they say they see ??? Or are they leading us all up the garden path ? Then again, they can't see what we can see eh ? LOL

I find it easiest to go nose close to the image, then focus through it, slowly moove back and it slowly "slots together", if that makes any sense.

I wonder how these were ever invented???

The cross eye'd method doesn't actually work. You will gain a 3d representation, but it will be the inverse of what's intended. It's hard to explain.

I can do it both ways, and the correct method creats a 3d image, instead of a 3d "cut-out" - somebody help with explaination???

From Magic Eye Inc.
Hold the printed Magic Eye image RIGHT UP TO YOUR NOSE and STARE through it as if looking off into the distance. The image will be blurry, try not to blink. Move the page VERY SLOWLY away from your face until the two circles above the image turn into three. If you see four circles continue to move the image away from your face until you see only three circles. At this point hold the image still until the 3D illusion slowly comes into focus and the hidden object magically appears! In this example the hidden image is the planet Saturn. The longer you look, the deeper and clearer the hidden Magic Eye image will become. Good Luck!

Put your face close to the screen and stare through it.

now move yor head awat from the screen - slowly, keeping the image infront of you out of focous--i.e. don't try to focus in on it.

Once your about a foot away you should see 'it'.

If not try again and again and again..........

Astigmatism doesn't make any difference, I can see them fine and I have a bad case. Actually I can see the cross eyed version (where the image sinks back into the paper/screen) and the focus behind version (where it comes forward) so neeeeeerrrr!v

Thumbs up

jameswrx thank you for that site, you've just cured 10 years of misery.

I had a girlfriend who could do these easily, she used to shout at me for not being able to do them.

I tried to get in the Fleet Air Arm in 1991, my eyesight was great except for my depth perception, where we had to see 3D images. You'd be given 20 lines each of 3 circles with dots in them, and you had to read down which dot of each line stood out; 1 left, 2 middle, etc. I was told that normally the first 12 jump out at everyone, and then it's a fight to see the rest depending on how good you are. I couldn't see no.1. The CPO dragged me round the hospital to some eye expert, who gave me training exercises, starting with one ridiculously easy (like the finger frankfurter test I suppose) and gradually progressing. After 10-15 minutes he gave me the original exam, and 18/20 leapt off the page at me with the other 2 not so difficult.

Not only am I now able to see the ones above, but am also able to just make out the image on my innocent-looking stereoscopic tie from Tie Rack in 1995, which has a boring red pattern but if an exec is tired and loses focus as he drifts off to sleep in a meeting, he will see the block letters SEXY appearing down my tie!!

For those of you still puzzled, if you didn't realise it: most of the pics above simply show cut-out silhouettes. I always thought some glorious technicolour photo of a completely different subject would jump out, no wonder I was disappointed!

My mum and dad had a friend who was really into these when the craze was about. He had all the books and would bring them out for people to try when they went round. At one dinner party my parents had they brought down a 'magic eye' poster they had bought. They gave it to their friend who was always bragging how easy it was to see the images and that if you couldn't there must be something wrong with you. Anyway after 2 hours sat trying to 'see' the image on the poster he gave up annoyed and fustrated...... the look on his face when my mum told him it was just a fancy piece of gift wrapping paper was a classic moment!!

check this out then

This is some guy who has a website about 3d and magic eye stuff, it's him at his desk

I didn't know you could see 3d real images without those dodgy glasses.

It's a bit harder than the magic eye pics.

If you do it right you should see 3 images of him in 3D. When you first go blurry eyed or cross eyed or however you get the magic eye stuff you should see 4 images try and focus on the outside images and the 2 midlle images should overlap and leave 3 3D images...weird.

edited; aviz uploader not working... Damn!

I can't do them.

My eyesight is too good. I always focus on the image. I'm unable to go cross eyed.

The seeing 3 dots doesn't work as I have to be touching the screen and even then I can focus on the picture. Looking through the picture does not work either as I can focus on the image and through it at the same time.
