J4CKO - I know what you mean about the airfield days not being transferable to on road driving, but thats exactly my point. I am never going to push a car on road as much as I will on track, even on nice twisty B-roads, you should never be driving beyond the limit.

The air field days are for me to have some fun and explore my car and my own limits and learn how to react to them appropriately. That way if it goes pear shaped on road I will be better equipped with knowledge on how to deal with it.

I have seen the Saxo crash pics and yes they do look frightening. But when you compare them to other cars in that class, they arent too bad. What the Euroncap dont take into account is active safety as you so rightly point out. You stand more of a chance of avoiding an accident if your car handles/ brakes/ (in some rare cases) accellerates better.

At the end of the day im looking for a fun first car that I can take on an airfield day without being dangerously slow (holding up other cars in the corners etc).

I have an X reg Vtr and a k reg wrx. I had the vtr new in 2001, its a good car though as said the pedals are a little cramp but I have got used to it. It is a surprisingly good car to drive, not quick but it handles very well and looks quite sporty. I'd say go for it, buy one.

I have just part exchanged my three year old VTR for my Scooby...the VTR was a great toy..it was lowered and stuck like glue....real cheap motoring fun...I reccommend them to anyone.
