Yeah - a friend of Craig and mine is currently building an XTR2 (getting popular - at least 5 cars in our gallery at http://www.xtr2.net )
David decided to take the plunge and go straight for a busa turbo. He is a nutter - our XTR2 is PDQ now in standard form (even with the cat in place). David has gone for new rods, pistons, port and polish on the head, cams, additional fuel rail, Mitsu Turbocharger. He will have 380bhp at the rear wheels - oh my god - we have about 160 at the rear wheel.
Now - that will be v.v.quick - providing he can get the power down (he also has Racelogic traction control)

If you have a spare £40,00 burning a hole in your pocket the Z-Cars twin Kawasaki ZX12 Tiger with 4x4 will satisfy your needs, 0-60 2.8 and 0-100 6.3. What more does a man need????

jlanng - PWR isn't everything
If you seriously consider gettin a kit car you will have to decide whether to a bike engine or "car" enigned one. I've read so many differing opinions on them. PWR / engine breaking / pure bhp blah blah... one of the fastest cars I've seen is actually a 1.6litre Vauxhaul Westi
Then you'll have to decide what Manufacturer you want, Westi / Caterham (Tiger ).
igratton / craig XTR2 looks stunning Followed the build ups and downs on their site, but dont ignore the Radical.
I currently run a XFlow Westi SEi purely becuase it was cheep Spent loads on it now though

Dizzy: I'm actually not too fussed about whether I go for a bike / car engined Westie. I guess being able to rev the nuts off the engine has a certain appeal I'd like to keep the weight down as low as possible for chuckability, and break/tyre wear reasons. Having said that, how much lighter are these engines once installed?

Darren,
You can pick up decent low mileage Zetecs 10k or cheaper.
Ian - when's the paint job getting done in the XTR? Are you bringing it to the Mallory WSCC track day?
cheers,
greg

Look like the Westfield ones, they are quite expensive for what they are just the standard Westfield fibreglass bucket seats with a bit of leather and a couple of pads. But they do look nice.

Jlang,
A 'Busa engine with all ancilleries, gearbox etc weighs 82kg.
A LOT lighter than any 180hp car engine/gearbox combo.
Added benefit on XTR is chain drive so no prop loss

I bought a cheap 'n' cheerfull x-flow westy last year when i sold the scoob.....
however, due to various reasons (bl00dy catflap!!) that engine is now missing & is replaced with a fireblade lump!!!
bring on saturday when i pick her up..... only 36 hours to go......
for sheer fun, you cant beat the bike engined cars.
mine is gonna be geared for complete fun, fitted with a 3.9 quaife atb, it wont do much over 115mph, but it should get there pretty darn rapid!!!

Fastest westy on the sprint/hillclimb here at the moment runs a 2litre vauxhall engine, around 240bhp I think. There was one with a full race 3.5 rover V8 engine which sounded awesome as it revved to around 7000rpm! It did, however, spin the wheels in 3rd with 11" slicks though!
Why can't you use other bike engines? Something out of a ZZR1100 or big GSXR/kawasaki would be suitable surely? A guy here had a fiat 126 with a big kawasaki turbo engine in it!!!!

You can, the bike engine forum uses talks about almost all engines, its only that westfield use blade, busa and bird. It makes it easer to transplant if the parts are available off the shelf if yo uhave a westy, but most people make all their own bits

Hi CatFlap,
Yeah my mates name is Chris, He only had it for about a year. If I remember write was the last letters on the reg BJW?? If it is the same car I have had many a happy day in that car, 750MC days at Silverstone and Snetterton, Kit car national day at Stoneleigh and I actually drove it for a short while outside Chris’s house once. I was with him for 50% of the build time also I was there when he ordered the kit, picked the engine up and picked the kit up from Westfield. We saw it at the SportsCar Show last year at the NEC for sale. Chris had a Scoob at one time and posted on hear, he has a Elise at the moment. He has hundreds of Digi pics of the build start to finish. You had to change the clutch yet?? Chris managed to get through a new clutch at a track day at Mallory.
few pics of the car pre SVA
Chris's old man unloading the kit of the van

HEHEH yep thats my car its realy well built, he has done a fantastic job
Here are the changes ive made to it Just to make it that little bit more special
Ive put avo light weight racing shocks on it, changed to 280mm billet 4 pot calipers (big weight saving) fitted a LSD 3.9 (to improve traction and acceleration, its now a little faster as a result, but looses out on top end)
I fitted a rac role bar with detachable staves, a supership mappable ignition coputer (well actualy not fitted just yet, its sitting ready to fit)
I wir4ed up a low pressure warning in case things inside the engine aint dooing to good. and replaced teh boot box with a carbon sheet(due to the rac role bar)
I have fitted an uprated clutch, and heavy duty springs, they seem to be holding out quite well
About to put some sticky rubber on it ready for sumer, and have it set up ready to blast
Yep its quick all right, how did it fair against the bikes?
it should stand a better chance when i fit the NOS hehehe
If you see him, tell ihim its being lovingly looked after, and enjoyed.

The bikes would get past him but not by much. NOS!!! you nutter. Chris was thinking about a LSD when he built it but never got round to it. I remember the first time we went out in it we were absolutely gob smacked couldn’t believe how fast it was. Chris was actually a bit reluctant to floor it to start with, we were only taking it to 9kRPM and it was scary. I mean we had been in our fare share of fast cars scoob’s and various other pocket rocket’s but this was something else it was in a totally different league. You been on any track days yet?? I will see him tomorrow night we are out on the pi55 ill tell him about this thread.

Yeh mate, as often as i can
I have even blown 1 engine up, LOL im onto my second (lol blew one up at donno)
If i can find insurece ill be puting 25bhp jets in, nothing mad, just a little bit more, trouble is you get used to the acceleration, it dident help as i went in my mate busa, NOW THATS FAST i just cant afford one yet
The old engine (the one you felt) put out 98 bhp at the rear wheels ( i had it tested when i bought it), the new engine i have put in a sligtly bigger, its a 919cc insted of the 893cc that was in there, and is now producing a healthy 108bhp (according to TTS) it does feel a smidgin faster with this new engine, and i have saved around 20kg in weight, so that helps as well
It realy is an awsome car

Can't belive u found my baby Tim, nice work. Glad to hear your enjoying her Catflap, I had my fair share of fun. Mind u, I spent a hell of lot of money and hard labour hours in the garage! NOS mmmmm..... the first Mega'blade I saw with NOS ended up with new cycle wings and front wishbones, as well as chassis damage. lol. Nutter. Keep on enjoying her anyway. If u want any more info from the build or one of many many(prob 350ish)photos, drop me a mail. I also got a diary, day by day, hour by hour of the build, (but kept it for memories!). Hopefully, in the not to distant future I will build a 'Busa powered monster. (That house I'm buying does need a garage, girlfriend, honest)
Happy revving.
Chris.
