John,

All things considered I think the government are making reasonable sense. I think apart from what they have said....they could look at other aspects such as training...but to remove speed limits anywhere seems like total trash.

Anyway it's late and I'm sodding off to bed....and do tell if Docjock keeps stealing the duvet !

Joe.

Sorry Joe,

If you need a sign by the side of the road to tell you what the appropriate speed is you should take a bus.
If a Government bases all it's decisions on what it thinks public opinion will be then it's mob rule and those who shout loudest get their way. Come to think of it that's what they are doing with their current transport policy......

Thanks Neil.

What caught my attention was the following quote from the article:
Of all car occupant deaths, about 70% occur on rural roads and this is the largest single group of deaths on any category of road.

Hmmm. I can read their thoughts now - "It's a 60 limit - I'm a good driver. I don't break the limits and will drive at 60 even though I don't know the road... The sign says it's ok.. Whoops corner sharp corner slippy corner slide hedge tree dead"

Drive within the cars limits, but more imporantly your own.
