No i didnt seek out a price for importing a beemer.
Smanning ive been looking at the pics again, i do like the A4 so alls not lost with the TT thing!
i never like one particular car, if one carches my eye then im off, im a very impulsive car buyer hence why i change them quite often.

"over-ruled by the far inferior ride, handling and numb / detached steering feel"
I disagree. With the sport suspension the Audi's handling is very good. Yes they may take a bit of getting used to but once you know the limits they go everywhere a 3 series BMW will. Its down to the skill of the driver.
I agree on the steering though, but lots of cars suffer from unenvolving steering, scoobys included but it is something u get used to.

I have driven a standard A4, and I thought the handling was very sofa like... not my thing at all. Didnt like corners. I have also driven 320,330,330D BMW's. I agree the handling (yes i know the difference) is more involving and it is more noticable on the non sport models than any other as the Audi wallows about where as the BMW is firmer to begin with. But then, if you compare the weight, the distribution of weight and the position of wheels in respect of the chassis then it dont take long to realise why.
The 3 series has the front axis right at the front of the car where as the A4 is further back which contributes to the sharper feeling on the steering and the set up. The Audi is also heavier which doesnt help much.
I dont think you can directly compare. You are right to say BMW have superior handling but I still maintain you are wrong to say Audi's dont handle becuase they do if you understand them. If you wanna prove me wrong then I will give you a damn good run for your money in any back lane with my 1.9TDI compared to any 3 series. I know I will win... I have used both. Fair enough they arent nimble, but the set up of AWD and the suspension of the sport makes them pretty good for a 1500kg tank! As for using AWD 2 days of the year... if you are poodling about then perhaps, but then the majority of cars are run around in urban areas where ther nearest they will get to off road is a pile of dog turd on the pavement and that not exactly what off road is about
