Superunleaded, 55 litres of....

Last tank 295 miles
tank before 325 miles
tank before that 285 miles

The facts speak for themselves, I can't be thrashing it around as much as you think

Don't believe me? Do a search for SN peeps fuel consumption figures and see how I compare

P.S. Seen that Shame about the lambo

Sorry if you all want to kill the thread, I was just thinking how expensive these low-speed kerbings seem to be in an Impreza.

A year or so back, I was in my Scirocco doing 50-55 accelerating hard on the A39 westward out of Bridgwater in twilight conditions and misjudged the location of the nearside kerb as I exited the street-lighting. As luck would have it my left wheels made side contact with the kerb just as I reached a place where a ramp was built into it (a ramp with *no* reason to exist - the inside edge of the path is an unbroken hedge with a field behind it!) This ramp was edged not with sloping kerbstones (which I'd have ridden up and onto the pavement, fairly safely) but with full-height curves.

Both nearside wheels hit the oncoming curved full-height kerbstone at full speed. The car lifted a foot or so off the ground briefly, and came back down wanting to spin anti-clockwise, but I held it without quite realising yet what had happened, and pulled into a layby just up the road. Both nearside tyres and both nearside alloys were ruined - big notches and twisted lips. There was no change in the car's geometry and no bodywork damage. Cost me just two Pirelli alloys from a scrapyard - about £100 - plus a couple of new tyres.

We hear a lot about how F1 cars have suspension that breaks easily when the load is not in the direction it's designed for, but I'd have thought that a competition-oriented car like the Impreza would have suspension designed to soak up impacts of this magnitude and direction. Any thoughts?

yeh, the impreza is not a competition oriented car, its a road car. The WRC rally cars have little in common. The GroupN cars are more based on the road car, but they break if you abuse them or put loads into them in the wrong direction.

Kenny,

Just how slow were you going when you managed to spin the car?

I was busy chatting away to some passengers about a year ago and went to turn in to the car park when BANG, I didn't notice the big **** off kerb. I drove straight over it (both wheels on the passenger side) at about 15-20mph. Other than a wrecked tyre and badly dented alloy, there was no other damage.

Now how can you push a wheel into bodywork or bend wishbones at 5mph

Are people a little conservative when quoting speeds or are Impreza's that fragile? Sounds like the stuff folk write on insurance claims to me

Stefan

The incident in my street was a nightmare as I had very little time to react and very little space to play in. I'f I'd gone for more power I could have potentially sorted it but I don't know.

oh and
Thats because space was an issue, its a tight street.

So why were you playing in there then !!!

sorry ken

Andy

upping that post count Leslie?

What I did in the car park was 100% spot on in my opinion
Bash your car up??? Jeepers a 6" curb ram. That has gotta hurt!

I hit a kerb, it was an accident and these things happen from time to time
Only to some folks amigo!

Like every well respected driver here has said over the last few months open your eyes and go on a course - its not an admission of being cr@p, more an admission that you'd like to improve lots and fast!

cheers

(great thread hijack as was said earlier - I didn't even notice the original post - sorry!!!)

In Kenny's defence (again) it was sheet ice last night on most side streets around Edinburgh
Defence? I'd say that just adds weight to the other side!
