Anyone interested in a group evening glider air experience flight???

Great stuff, count us in. Will have to check the sofa for pennies once again as I thought that it would cost about £12 for a go, but never mind - sounds excellent.
Pencilled in the date.

Morning Dave
Probably been here even longer, but didn't cut the mustard with the cadets.
As I recall the Lee Enfield was as tall as I was
Starting to feel it's time I did a few more things whilst I stall have my faculties
The bull**** detector wasn't required on this one m8, never meant to imply that it was anything other that correct.
Cheers B

Sorry about that . I didn't realise that there would be no winching on the Saturday evening (honest). As the club is run on a voluntary basis, the winch driver who was probably been on duty all day normally wants to clock of by the end of the afternoon.
However, I've just spoken to the club and they will see if they can get a which driver for the Saturday if that's what everyone wants.
As an example of 'flight time', I went down to the club yesterday evening for a few winch launches. I managed 1500ft and only had 8 minutes in the air. This could have been due to my poor flying (not flown since Sept last year ) and I probably could have prolonged it another couple of minutes. But like I said before, unless you find a thermal, it's not going to be a long flight….
Banshi,
7/06 ?? Do you mean 6th July or 7th June? We can only do June 9th, July 7th, 14th, 21st.
So,
What date can everyone make? Obviously the sooner we book the more chance we have of bagging the date and arranging a winch driver (if that's what you want).
Does anyone prefer a winch to areo-tow?? I'd like to make sure that you get what you want, so just let me know which you prefer and we will try to work something out.

7/06 is preferable for me,
7/07 is Wimbledon so I'm out unsupervised but it'll probably rain
Could be a couple more people but depends on the date.
Cheers

Just of to polish my goggles and starch a silk scarf.

OK, since everyone else (apart from Richard, who I've not heard from yet ) can make 9th June we'll stick with that. OK with everyone???
Now, as I said, we may be able to get a winch driver for the evening if everyone would prefer to do that instead of an areo-tow. You won't get as much air time from a winch, but of course, you can get more flights .
As the club is run by volenteers it means someone giving up their Saturday night to help us out, so the sooner I can give them a defo if we need someone or not the better. It's still not definite that we can get someone, but would prefer to let them know one way or another before they go and rope someone it for us
Let me know ASAP chaps..

Forgot to mention. Speaking in a posh accent, saying things like 'tally ho' and 'chocks away', having nick names like 'Ginger' or 'Spotty' and calling the glider a 'kite', are all mandatory

Nimbus,
Any chance of this happening again sometime? Maybe later this summer? Term finishes on the 25/05, so would have been perfect timing, except that being a student I can't afford it
I looked at gliding as something to take up at university, but couldn't afford that either.
If the demand is there, do you think you would do it again in the near future?
Always wanted to try it, but not got the funds at presen unfortunately.
Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Yes, if there's enough interest for another course later in the year then I can certainly organise it. We need a minimum of 6 people per group. It's a shame you can not make this one, but we can sort another out for later in the year.
I don't know if there's another club closer to you if your thinking of taking this up as a sport. The Soaring Centre has one of the most moden fleets in the UK and owns it's own field (used to be an old WWII areodrome)...
After this one is out of the way I'll post again and see if anyone else want's to go to another one.
Cheers

Hi Nimbus,
Thanks for the reply.
Are there still places available, if me and a friend came along?
Just remembered that I have an interest free overdraft, so may as well make the most of it
Would it be possible to e-mail me or post the relevant details, like how to get there? Also how much do you think it will cost for the day, as I don't know how many flights we can expect, etc.
Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Yes we can take two more. The minimum is 6, but they can take upto 25 maximum.
The course is just for the evening (9th June). A full day is a lot more expensive!! It starts at 5:30pm and should give is a good few hours.
The club do not normally have winch launches on a Saturday evening, so I'm trying to see if they can do this for us as a one off (since this is what most people wanted).
Depending on what the club can arrange the prices are as follows;
Winch launch £20 (approx 10 min flight max ~ 5-6 min normally), Aero-Tow £35 (approx 20-25 min flight). This includes some ground training on the glider and parachute use. This is for one flight only, but you also get temporary membership to the club for three months. This allows you to fly at club rates (winch £5.90 + 29p/min and A-T £17.50 + 29p/min). You may also be able to take additional flights on the evening at these rates if there's time and someone available to drive the winch/tug plane.
I'm waiting to see what everyone else wants to do (winch or AT), but we may not have a choice if they can not arrange a driver.
If you look through the rest of this thread these some more info including the clubs website.
As soon as I have everyone confirmed that the want to attend I'll send out directions etc.
Glad you could make it

Winch would get my vote to be honest for the rush...
We're absolutely stony broke at the moment after moving house, so I really appreciate spelling the costs out:
If 20 quid (or 35 quid for tow) per person includes everything to get me in the air (ie training, instructor, hire, ...) then count us in.
Sorry to be tight, but the mortgage has just gone up 400 quid!
Nick.

Hi Nick,
Yes, those costs included everything for your first flight, inclusive of air time, instructor, training etc.
Food, beer and accommodation (if required) are paid for separately.
As per my last post, if we do get a winch driver, you could have a second go at club rates, which are pretty good. Providing the first one did not scare you too much
I'll keep everyone posted..

Yes, there is a weight limit, but I can not remember what it is exactly. If you let me know what your weights are I can check it out. Send it me by e-mail if you like
EDIT. I think you have to be a lardy b*****d to not make it
