i've just got out off bed, and i knew this would be getting heated, i agree the figures are crap. just want to get it hot on this thread. lets face it the 2.5L engine with load of torque is the quickest when rolling, cos you don't have to go all the way up the rev range to make it move! lol

I've driven one or two 325's and a 328, having driven my mothers 172 there is no chance either would have got away from the sport. I'd be quite nervous in my decatted MY99 if a 172 was behind me with any sort of half decent driver.

I cant believe the 172 is this quick, I just need my cup to be run in so I can explore its limits.

Its wild that a 2.0L car is keeping up and beating suposodly faster cars.

I know a Cup will never waste a modded scoob in a straight line, but I just wonder what it will do when Renault Sport bring out all these perfomance parts, Im sure it will suprise some.

Because normally all this racing should be done on a track.

You race against the clock them compare times.
I know what you are saying about the other driver not giving it his all.
I supsose if the **** of his car squats, he overtakes you at 90 on a twisty a road or you he overtakes a load of cars on bends etc.

I guess you have to go on instinct.

I drive a GT MY99, and a Clio doesn't come even close, as for the WRX I really don't know.
I do know that a standart GT is a bit faster than a PPP WRX.

I'm considering replacing my WRX (with PPP and a few other bits) for a 172 Cup.

The figures are not that relevant - where the Clio will win is on response.
Ultimately it will be a bit slower - but who cares? it may be a more fun driving experience.
My last STi was fun at times, but unusable - if I was having fun that generally meant I was going far too fast!

If you can live without a/c, leather and general luxuries get a Cup.
Renault are bringing out all the performance mods for it.

If you buy a 172 maybe you will always wish you bought a Cup as its the more special one, plus its cheaper.

Go on you know you want to...........

well its really just the same car just with bits missing the only reason the track is wider is because the offset of the wheels is different. i wouldnt think you wouldnt be able to put the on a 172 but we shall have to wait and see.

ooh yeah where can i price a cup online ??

i had a 172 before my sub, it was faster than standard 208bhp and 218bhp wrx's. Note i say standard!!.

As for bmw 325s stop dreaming mate. They cars ae dreadfully slow until they reach about 110mph. A good friend of mine has a 325 coupe and my clio used to destroy it constantly. The 325 could only hold the clio after 110mph. Miles behind through the gears.

Dogmaul,

Stay away from a 172 that has had the superchips treatment. A guy over at Cliosport had one installed, at a recent RR day he was woefully down on power compared to the other 172's!

A 172/182 will give you trouble in a STANDARD WRX.

Has to be said for only having 172 brake the Renault Clio Sport can shift given the good mid range punch of the engine and tripod style handling, the likes of Peugeot 206 180 used high revs to achieve the power with no torque unlike the Clio.
Has to be said though with under half the power of my classic i wouldn't even waste my fuel
