The re-map hasn't quite made it to my insurance company <cough>
I'm paying £700 full comp with business travel and protected no-claims (max no-claims). This is from the company who gave me a good deal on the MY00 (Frizzell) and I just paid the extra. I would guess that I could it cheaper else where. I was paying £500 ish for the Scooby.

I ran some quotes through direct line. Me, 27, 8 years NCB protected kept on drive. My (if it was unmodded) MY99 scoob = 864. S4 = 1100. So a bit more but not too bad. However, saying that, my modded scoob is 735 quid at the mo so expect the S4 quote to be much lower by shopping around

The stock brakes are marginal....bit like the MY00 Scooby really.
Most people would re-map or do the RS4 thing uprate the brakes. The kit of choice is normally the Porsche GT2 calipers on a 335 x 32 rotor. AmD do this as do Move'it. The other common kit is the Brembo kit but that is almost the same as the Porsche kit (Brembo make Porsche Calipers to Porsche specs). All of the kits for the front run out to around the £1800 mark which is why I went for HiSpec (£1100 fitted) which are 99% as good.
If you are going to get the RS4 conversion done you would be advised to change the clutch while the motor is out and the headers/sports cats. I'm told the stock transmission will cope with 450 BHP but AmD have had to turn down the torque on this conversion as it was getting over 500ft/lb. This conversion will produce significantly more torque than a tweaked RS4 (apparently).
The other thing to consider is changing the suspension.
I'm guessing having never driven a R33 (just a tweeked R32) that a RS4 converted S4 would be faster than a Skyline in the 'real' world.
I get around 25-28 mpg on a run, 20-22 around town with a all time low of 6 mpg at Bedford (gulp).
I've gone from having a tweaked 944 Turbo (AmD chip, Koni adjustables, custom exhaust etc 280 BHP) to a MY00 Impreza (Scoobysport backbox Tek3, Powerstation handling tweaks) and then to the S4 and I have to say that the S4 in it's current spec would crush a MY00 (30 onwards or roll-on in any gear) and move away from the Porsche on acceleration & brakes. The S4 would lose out to the Porsche on handling but is probable on a par if not better than the Impreza. Highly recommended car.
Hope that is of some help
