Honda S2000

You can gang up all you like
I appreciate the Honda S2000 is a good car, I have just had a quick look on auto trader, they do look good in that gun metalic grey colour.
I could never fit in an S2000 anyway - not until they have adjustable steering columns.

A mate of mine who is 6,4 and 18 stone drove my S2000 no problem.
I love the S2000, I've had a Scooby and a Skyline in the past and have settled on the S2000 as a cheap to run, fun and quick all round good car (in my opinion of course!).

We are just passionate about our cars. A lot of people (I'm not saying you) are very ill-informed and we get sick of Porsches being compared to the S when we have a £7 - £20 K price advantage. It would be like comparing a Skyline (£45K) with a standard Scooby (£22K?) and while admitting the Scooby was good, claiming the Skyline offered better VFM - come off it!
You obviously have a thing for the Porsche as we all have objects we desire. I say good for you.

I don't think anyone is knocking the Boxster or your desire to own one if that's what you want but merely giving the benefit of our experiences of owning cars that are considerably more expensive than the Honda S2000 but whose decision to buy may have been based on a smidge of badge snobbery and performance figures oneupmanship
well that was the case for me with regards to my M3

I do agree with you the money part of it, I like to think I know a fair bit about cars, although I don't pay quite the attention to other brands I still know a little
I do know that 240bhp is going to be pretty damn fast, I drove a brand new Integra type R recently and was amazed at it.(yes I did say Integra and not Civic)
Don't get me on started on Skylines

Boxster is a cheap Porsche for the masses.
A proper Porsche is a 911 and twice as expensive
The Honda would "mash" a normal boxster Its a good word to provoke argument And 2.3 secs faster to 100 is comfortably beating it. The normal boxster can only just hold its own against the Clio - LMAO

Certainly not, I cover about 20,000 miles ever year and I was sick of the engine problems I had with my turbo cars, my Scooby and my Skyline both blew up + many other problems. Personally I havn't heard of an S2000 ever going bang, at least not a n/a one. It's reliable , chep to run and great fun.

The S2000 could be a second slower to 60 and it wouldn't matter - you see this is the point - mere performance figures do not make a car - it's how the whole becomes greater than the sum of it's parts - the M3 I had was significantly faster than the S2000 and indeed would blow most Scoobs in a straight line but that's hardly fun is it? well maybe at first but not in the long term

Image doctor,
From the figures provided the S2000 is 20% quicker than standard boxster to 60 and to 100 so saying 'there would be nothing in it on the track' is probably incorrect.
The boxster is actually quite a nice looking car but the S2000 looks nicer to me.
Have been lucky enough to be taken for a good thrash round a track by a race instructor in an S2000 and it was a cracker. Plenty of **** out fun action too.
I'd have one

Towser - back to your question!
check the product update has been done, not to worry if not as it's a 'recall' so you would prob be able to get it done.
Check clutch, roof etc. all works. Ultimately it's a Honda - probaby the most reliable manufacturer of the lot.
AFAIK there are not many probs with the car & Honda IMO are far better with cust service than many.
For more tips go to http://www.s2ki.com
or the uk section of this site - http://www.s2ki.comhttp://www.s2ki.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=25

I've 'mashed' couple of Boxsters in my S2000 and it wasn't just in a straight line either.
Very few cars can compete on smiles per ££ that the S2000 gives you.
Bikers really love the S2000, I think that says a lot.
Badge snobs are a marketing mans wet dream....all IMHO of course
Learn to drive an S2000 properly and you will be humbled.

image doctor - u wanna take a look at the performance stats if you reckon that a S2000 wouldn't mash a 2.5 boxster....
It'll **** all over it and then some!
the S2000 rocks, if u like engine noise and real sports car driving then look no further.....it will meet both requirements in bucketfuls!
I mean who really wants to drive the porker which is referred to as the 'poor mans 911' and looks the same going forwards as it does going backwards ??
Go instead for Kudos, speed, exhilaration and 'THE BAD *** SCREAM OF THE VTEC HOWL!' unless you're a pansy hairdresser then you get the Boxster.

I think the 'mashing' would take place (especially) with a 2.5 and to a lesser extent with the standard 2.7.
As I said earlier, with a Boxster S it would be pretty even, probably down to who got the best start or who got the jump.
What people (including me) are getting at is that a new, fully specced Boxster S will cost you well over £40K. Add in a hardtop and a few other bits and it would be easy to get near £50K!!
That's a hell of a premium on the Porsche, for the badge alone, coz there is no way even the S has a performance advantage worth that money. Nor does the Boxster have the edge on depreciation.
Bang for your buck - only one winner!
Obviously, your choice is to be respected, but you are not going to convince many people that the Porsche is a better car.
A new S2000GT comes with leather, alloys, air-con and aluminium hardtop and UK list is about £27K.

IMAGE plays an important part in the lives of so many people .... always has, always will I guess.
I'm old enough to remember that those first Porsches were simply tarted up VWs ..... both Dr Porsche designs IIRC ... THAT particular Porsche IMAGE has remained with me ever since. I also remember desperately wanting to see them do well in F1 and the sight of that lone silver F1 Porsche consistently finishing down the field or last when it finished at all is another very lasting IMAGE. Never really understood why sooo many sooo called car enthusiasts have such a penchant for the penduluos Porsches. Those who've REALLY driven one will understand that term pendulous ..... I also well remember those 1960s Porsche Sports Car monsters which competed at Le Mans and elsewhere when Ferrari also took sports car racing seriously. Often seriously undrivable even by professionals but great fun to watch strugging for adhesion when a cloud passed over the sun .... another lasting IMAGE for me ....
This is where HONDA still have always had the edge when it comes to REALITY as well as IMAGE. Still the ONLY Japanese car manufacturer to win a F1 race in their own name. True that was back in the 1960s and with much Brit input, but win in their own right they did. As F1 engine providers, no need to remind enthusiasts here of their numerous successes in more recent times. However, with the passing of the great man himself about ten years ago, I refer of course to Soichiro Honda, their F1 exploits have been much less successful. Mr Honda must be turning in his grave at high revs ..... No coincidence that in my opinion and directly parallels Lotus's exploits since the passing of another motoring circles legend (no pun intended)... Colin Chapman.
So, posers pose away with your ponderous preference penchant for the pendulous Porsche. Others prefer a Honda ..... a REALITY IMAGE.
Yes, I have Honda, but it does not have a big "H" on it. Has a Golden Wing instead. Revs to 10,000 rpm with that gorgeous Honda sound and is OVER 25 years old. Had it since new and only needs two wheels to do it all too ... However, strictly a fair weather motorcyclist so it's my trusty MG for getting about when adhesion gets a bit iffy ...
Me have a Porsche? No thanks, never. Doesn't suit my style .. I prefer other marques ......
Parting shot .... anyone see that S2000 (McNish driving or??) matched against the CTR (Plato driving) on a TV Motoring programme last year. Guess what won ...

Oh Yes ... a neighbour severely chastised me verbally for my choice of wheels recently. His chosen Boxster is of the finest Germanic "Build Quality" he reminded me. Much more recently said porka ignited and burned on the hard shoulder ... not a laughing matter even on the "He who laughs last laughs wossname" basis ... bet that fire was of superior build quality though ... now that is funny ..

OMFG Selective memory or what!!!
I give up - Porsches are crap, Honda's are the best because some old duffer who rides a goldwings says so.
Anyone wanna buy a Porsche? I'll do a PX on a lawn mower manufacturers car.

I do like the Lotus and went to have a look at one the other weekend to use as a weekend car, and the odd trip to the nurburgring.
However I could not get in without taking the roof off, which did grate on me a little. I guess you need to be less that 6ft to enjoy them, or very supple.

Never saw the S2000/CTR race. Wish I had, coz I'd like to know how that result occurred.
Rain would explain it for sure - the S, like all RWD, can be rather unforgiving in those conditions. Was it raining?
In the dry, well, I can't imagine how the S would have lost (FWIW not been overly impressed with McNish in FI, but what do I know!). I can tell you for a fact that the CTR will not live with an S2000 on the road (in the dry, drivers being equal, identical local knowledge etc).
Of course, you do get those situations where the road determines the pace, to the extent where a repmobile will keep up with anything in front of it. But if you had a more typical scenario - some lengthy straights, roundabouts, fast A road, etc, the S will just have too much go for a CTR.
