22B or M3?
#92
Having had both a P1 and an E46 M3 and I still have my 260bhp E30 M3 (who said you cant get much more power out of this engine!!) the P1 was fantastic as a cross country hack or for a quick blast round the country lanes. The E46 M3 demands a higher level of concentration as it is not as forgiving as 4wd, but as an every day very usable quick car I think the M3 would be the choice. But I do agree with some of the other posts, if you want the ultimate Impreza then the 22B is it and you shouldn't lose much if any money on one unlike the new M3. Remember the M3 CSL is due out soon but will probably be around £50-£55K and the normal M3 is having a facelift mid way through this year. This is one of the reasons I sold the E46 M3 in November, the high demand and high residual period is now over for the M3.
I am trying to save my pennies to get myself a STi 4 Type RA or Type R (if I can find enough money for a Type R) then I will have a classic M3 and the only scoob I would buy (lots of power for real world money).
Good luck you will enjoy either car.

See what I mean about the best 6 cylinder engined car in the world and ex-M3 owners. Most M3 owners who keep their car for a long time tend to be ones who have older M3s not the E46s, so why is that, pray tell ?
Fancied something else/different ?
Not what they expected ?
Other reason ?

I have to say that although I don't own a scooby, I enjoy coming on the board as generally people have a lot of fun views are are petrolheads.
There are always exceptions. You are unfortunately are one of them - Why O Why are you so sore about the M3!?!?
At the risk of making an unpopular statement on this board, guys c'mon! The (e46) M3 is a far better car in virtually all respect than a scoob. Just open your eyes, there is life beyond Scoobies!!! That is not to say it is more fun as fun is what you make a car. Facts however are facts. Another fact is that a Ferrari is a better car than an M3. Only a fool disputes that.

Skittles, not been on here very long have we . They are loads of ex-M3 owners who couldnt say a bad word agianst them and suddenly they are all ex-owners why ?
Go back and read the thread I already said I thought the M3 ws a good peice of kit, and my use of smilies to try and convey humour but unforunately it seems like it been lost on a few people.
If that isnt bias I dont know what is. BTW do you actually know that unlike other imprezas a 22B is seem welded and hand built and at the time the closest you an get to a full blown WRC car.
I expressed an opinion which said I would rather have a 22B or a second hand 996 than M3. Sorry if you dont like that opinion but if we all had the same opinion, life would be pretty boring.
Enjoy your M3 as they are great cars as I will enjoy my scoob and maybe a 22B or 996 or a maybe 355 one day.

The M3 (IMHO) is a far better car than a 22B - it looks graet, is comfortable has has exceptional build quality.

Yep that post on the previous page may have been a bit OTT and missing a few smilies. Now edited to ask for proper reasons rather than my pathetic attempt at humour .

Had an E46 M3 for about 9 months and it is certainly a fast, good handling car which is far from being a rep-mobile. Would have preferred the engine to be a bit torquier as most of the action happens above 6000 revs. One of the best RWD handling cars I have driven and is very easy to drive fast in the dry and the wet. However for a fully specced new one it will cost you 45 - 50K which is too much although as I had an early one managed to not lose any money on it but those days are gone. Would most probably chose it over the 22B which is a bit on the edge for everyday use in my opinion. Prefer my current option STi7 Prodrive with PPP and put the other 20K in the bank while I decide what to spend it on!!!

If I have keys to both for commuting/long distance mileage I would pick up the M3 keys. The 22B would be for weekends, scoob meets and posing in .
Do M3 drivers get together and stand around a pub car park till 11.30pm on a warm summer school nights . Thats what I would miss and the looking at the variety of mods, people and cars that turn up. Its not all about the car look at the Nottingham Big One and the SIDC National day, both last year and both very impressive sites.
