What is that smell........
#1
Question for you guys and girls out there....
When driving my MY97 UK in traffic or after heavy motorway use, I get a very 'hot' smell coming from the engine. Temp gauge shows as normal but smell seems to be getting worse. Engine bay is not the cleanest but does seem to be dirty enough to create this sort of smell?
Anyone had similiar problems or ideas of what this could be?
Thanks for any help that you can offer....

Scooby Regular
COULD be a leaky rocker cover gasket....
Is it a hot oil type of smell? I had it on my old MY95, where a drop of oil was leaking onto the downpipe, and burning...
I've seen one where the oil caught fire and wrote an engine bay off!!
So, I'd get it checked...... it can have serious reprocussions....
Good news is that it's not too diffcult (or pricey!!) to get it fixed.Depending which side it is, you'll have to remove the airbox or washwipe reserviore, remove sparkplugs, take of rocker cover, and replace gasket. I've done mine, and it was relatively simple.
If you're not mechanically minded (I'm not, but I'll have a go!)< just get your local garage to do it
Hope this helps

Yep, i had the same thing on my old scoob, very small leak from the power steering pot, running down onto one of the headers underneath. It used to smell after you'd given it some stick.
