order a z4, it is quicker than the z3 (not m) and the z3 is really dated and to be honest a bit sh*t. if you dont like it you will be able to sell it for what you paid probably more.

Your original suggestions point to you being a hairdresser (according to pistonheads definition) I'd get a 911 if I were you, the boxter is the least hairdresser of the others.

Mine was the first bottom in the passenger seat of a couple-of-hours-old (85 miles) Boxster S last night. It had the lowered suspension, 18" wheels and Bose speaker package installed. It is a gorgeous car, feels really planted. Any standard Scoob will be left for dead mid-range, and it looks great in pearlescent silver. 260bhp and 310Nm torque standard. Looking forward to my mate running it in so we can see what it can really do. Get one

Paul,
I know you have had several problems with your Terzo, which were resolved, as you told me just prior to one of my Northern Meets on the Nonts Saras road, and have had subsequent problems, which I trust are all now resolved.
I think you may be extremely disapointed in the response you MAY get from other manufactures main dealers if you attempt to personalise/modify your 'new' car and hope they will still honour all warranties.
Several years ago a friend of mine bought a brand new Golf GTI, when they were still a sought after car?. He wanted to fit a Thatcham cat 1 alarm on it to appease his insurance company.
He was told in no uncertain terms that if he did so ALL the warranty on the car would be invalidated.
His only option was to pay about £400 for a Volkswagon NON THATCHAM approved alarm to maintain his warranty.
I do not want a debate on wether this is fair/legal/morally reprehensible etc but just to point out to you that many Subaru dealers and eventually Subaru UK can be pretty reasonable.
Maybe not as reasonable as you may like, but compared to some manufacturers/dealers absolutely RIGID interpretation of the rules, incredibly fair.
I think there are more stories on here of how people have had their (often modified by themselves & NOT by Subaru) cars fixed by Subaru, versus the numbers of people who have had warranty claims rejected, because the car has been modified.
Which is a perfectly legitimate reason given by pretty well ALL other manufactures for rejecting a claim outright.
I would hazard a guess that if you ran a Boxster, or some other prestigious marque, on non std wheels, and then tried to claim for wheel bearing failure they would ever so politely, (as they are used to dealing with the upper echelons of society, or they think they do) tell you to go forth and multiply.
Put it another way, it could prove to be an incredibly expensive gamble to mod a Boxster than catch the bill for a blown engine, which is probabaly a damm sight more expensive than say a P1 motor.
£8000 maybe, or more.
A Vauxhall Zafira motor was stated as costing upwards of £4500 for one unlucky couple whose less than one year old engine 'died' due to incorrect maintenance,(low oil, which is obviously down to the owner, but they were not aware that their brand new car would burn significant amounts of oil!!! Thought only old cars did that).
See you in court, F.R.O.
Vauxhall wouldn't entertain making ANY payment towrds fixing it, out of goodwill. Goodwill cost them money.
That couple learned very expensively their mistake.
When other people on here have blown Impreza Turbo engines, I know for a fact at least one instance on here where the treatment of the engine didn't raise a SINGLE question, and it was replaced no questions asked. (bog std car though)
Good luck with your selection, but don't delude yourself that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
It may not be.
Changing a car you like to hopefully get better dealer service may not work, even if your new car is left std (re the Zafira engine example).
Back to your original post topic,
Buy a cheap runaround, and get a secondhand Lotus Seven for fun, but fix it yourself.
Cheers MTR

Hi Dracoro,
You may remember me from such s2ki postings as "disgraceful dealer" etc. (I think I was neil_s2k on there!)
I had a silver MY00 which I got for 19000 from a Honda main dealer. They stitched me up and sold me an import as a UK car and when I took it back and asked for a knock down price or a replacement car they told me they were too busy to deal with me and told me to come back next week - b*stards!! So I demended a refund.
Anyway to cut a long story short I was left without a car (in a rural area) and couldn't find another decent S. I saw the Scooby MY00 for 12500 and bought that to get me through the winter and some of next year.
Loved the S2000 so much that I'm going to build a garage this year, and order a new one from Europe at the end of the year to keep as a second car, whilst driving araound in an old banger in the winters!!
Still get upset whenever I see one Luckily that's not too often in the North East.
Neil
BTW You should send the s2ki lot in the direction of this thread, especially the S2000 not as fast as a civic comment!!!

I was seriously considering a Boxster and joined the Boxster newsgroup....what some have said in here previously appears to be correct about Boxster residuals...though the forecourt price would indicate lowish depreciation the reality is what you are offered by a OPC (Official Porsche Centre) dealership is derisory. Also I had the impression prior to joingin that newsgroup that they were reliable and 'cheap' (for a Porsche) to run. Far from it...servicing is very expensive ...twice that of a Merc and the problems the participants of the newsgroup seem to have are quite horrendous. TVR servicing is also expensive £600 every 6k miles.
Did you have a Terzo? I have done 89k miles in mine without a hiccup...touch wood
Anyway over the last few months I have gone full circle and having had a test drive in a STi 8 today will be ordering one with PPP this week

BTW I have been thinking and would go for either one of those unsold Makinens or a Clive Seddon special EVO 7/8

anyone who thinks an S2000 can touch a Boxster S is living in a fantasy land, it maybe more money but its a much better car so it should be, the S2000 is good value for money however.
how do I know this? my best mate has owned from new the following:
Scoob MY00 Turbo, S2000, Boxster S , STI 8.
which does he rate the most? the Boxster, period.

It's down to personal preference.
What do you mean 'touch a boxster s'? Performance wise there's nothing in it. Cornering/Handling there's not much between them etc.
I personally think the Boxster is a slightly better allround car BUT you have to spend another £10k at least! Many S2000 drivers used to be boxster drivers who think the S2000 is more fun. The S2000 is certainly a more raw driving experience which demands respect (i.e. you have to be a relatively good driver to get the best out of it - there are other cars out there if you're not a competent enough driver and want to go fast).
I'd quite like a Boxster S but they're too expensive for what they are. The boxster is overall better than the S2000 but over £10k better? I think not.
Anyway, paul corrigan - what are your thoughts on what car you're giong for?
