Unless you are aware of the issues and fully understand how McPherson strut suspension works, I really can't see that you can comment.

If side loads caused by springs are not an issue with this sort of suspension, why does every manufacturer offset the spring platforms?

I'll give you the answer, just in case you aren't aware. An important reason is to help reduce side loads in the damper which spoil the ride due to stiction in the bearings.

I hope this helps!

Regards

Mike

Still waiting for our supplier to give us a believable timing plan. They promise that it's their highest priority at the moment!

Mike:

Thanks for the informative reply. There should be no issue with side loads on the standard strut because the manufacturer "does" offset the platforms.

As I said earlier your WRX spring kit probably did cause problems because the springs did not fit the platforms correctly.
Our Eibach my01 springs fit perfectly so we have had no problems.

If you are really stuck I can sell you a job-lot at a knock down price

All the best

Cool

Rich / Mike
I am the customer with the WRX (aka UK300 £3500 price premium please sir). I can confirm that Rich did have a head scratch exercise when trying to fit the spring kit. It was almost like the Blue Prodrive springs were slightly larger in dia and did not sit the same in the cups in the same way. Anyway they were fitted and I can confirm no problems while driving the car. Much improved body roll (less is better) and gives the car a lower stance but not to low. Recommended – Yes.

Thanks to Rich & Gang & Prodrive.

Steve,
Power station Eibachs are for WRXMY01> bugeyes, although Eibachs told me have been fitted to many STi7's without any Problems.

Prodrive advised me not to fit WRXMY01> bugeyes springkits to a MY02STi7 as it's alot heavier on Front end with WRX kits fitted to STI7 it may seem too low on front and bottoming out could occur on poor road surfaces.

Prodrive springkits made to thier spec, by Eibach, can only be purchased through a dealership (not even through Prodrive IIRC)

Prodrive seem happy to released Prodrive STi7 springkits(made by Eibachs) so can assume the rest can be made by the same the same way and same manufactuer the delays maybe due to a release of a sample batch and just awaiting another batch to be produced.

As the MY02STi7 spring sets are different to MY03Sti (but spec and wieght distrib are the same) they inferred it MAY be posssible another manufactuer would produce the MY03 due to the odd delay with STI7

Tony

Ps hope this is a bit clearer sorry to confuse you

Dear Mr Eibach, It's Prodrive here, can I have 100 sets of springs for an STi7 please. Certainly, they'll be with you Tuesday.....

Come on, how difficult can it be? Does it take a year to order a new set of springs for Tomi or Petter when they decide they want to go a bit lower or stiffer?

I can understand how developing a PPP might take months but a set of springs? RichiB please reserve me a set of yours I'll more than likely be in shortly....

Chelspeed

I wish it was so easy!

That's pretty much what we did well over a year ago and they still can't get it right. The fact remains that there is not another spring kit in Eibach's range(or anyone else that we know about outside Japan) that has been DESIGNED to work properly on the 02MY STi Type UK. A WRX spring may well fit (now Eibach have finally realised that we were right when we told them that they are actually different 00 to 01MY hence the less than perfect fit on the very first batch of our rear springs) but is not optimal when used on an STi due to the higher weight and differently rated dampers.

We are expecting the final spec for approval in the next couple of weeks so if everything checks out expect them to be available early next month from your Subaru dealer.

Thanks for all your patience whilst we get this sorted out to our satisfaction with Eibach, but we do want them to be right.

Mike

Mike,

Despite some of the bitching on here (they are just excited), we are actually very appreciative of your keeping us informed.

You have the unenviable position of trying to keeping everyone happy.

Last time Mike was on here he stated beginning of March. I have mine booked in for a service on 17th so if not available by then will have to consider alternatives as this has been going on for far too long already.

Powerstation per chance? I'm fairly certain that Grant and Arron Bird on this board have both gone for these springs on their STi's but I think they also had other handling stuff at the same time. You could try asking them what they think.

What you really need is someone who has changed just the springs....

Damian Harty posted elsewhere that they're busy on springs and suspension packs for the STi8. I guess now they've got a new toy to play with they won't want to be messing about with last years model...... How can it possibly take 12 months for a set of springs?

I can understand Dave's position too, I wasn't expecting Dave to answer, I was hoping Mike Woods might still be lurking and reply.

All info gratefully received, I'll keep waiting.....

Arron,
I hope to get my baby back on some proper springs by the end of April My dealer lost my orginal spring and fitted Classic Eibach's when the Provedrive spings come they have to fit them. As four wheel alignment means two pieces of string and chalk on the floor Will take it after to Powerstation or TSL

I have heard Powerstation do an upgraded rear Anti-roll bar is it much of an improvement ??

Arron,

Did you do the solid drop links, uprated mounts and ALK also? I did and was very pleased with the results.....

Ordered my Prodrive STi7 springs today from local dealer.

Cost quoted as £165 + VAT, dealer reckons they should be here in a couple of weeks, I don't believe it though.

The good news is that earlier in the week they didn't appear on the computer, they do now though! At last we seem to be getting somewhere with these (maybe?)

Hopefully I can get these and blast across to Powerstation to fit them (along with some other goodies) prior to Japfest (my 1st time on track in Scoob).

Paul,
I have heard real good reports of the Powerstation Rear Anti-Roll bar and ALK

Listers are fitting my springs when they come in ( they owe me ) but will get Powerstation to do the rest.
