He may not be the coolest guy in terms of his dress sense but he has a fair idea of what makes a car cool. And I would not be far wrong in saying that most poeple on here would agree. If cost was not an issue would you buy a diesel? Only if you where very silly. LOL

Why didnt you buy the petrol Audi Quatro? Its faster and cooler :-)

i must dis agree with clarkson............but mayb cos i'm biased my golf TDi anniversary is very cool.......but how can the petrol version be cool for him and the diesel not????

both are exactly the same except for what colour nozzle u use at the petrol station!!!!!!

Lol how can a VW Golf be cool. The GTi has been officially deemed a lemon in a well known publication this month. Thinking about it though all VW's are lemons specially them stupid 4 motion things should be called lack of motion a much more apt title for a such a sh1tty car

But you want to try doing 34000k a year in a petrol!
i sold my scoobie which i bought new in 2000 and had it 20 months and covered nearly 60000k in it!
That equates to 100 quid a week fuel, 4 services and 3 sets of tyres a year!

New audi quattro diesel, save 9500 quid over a 3 year period on fuel and insurance and service. and then buy a golf gti and turn it into a race car and race it! now thats cool!

You enjoy your petrol and ill be having real fun! been down the performance car road many times and done many miles in em, not for me anymore!

For a man who you suggest is any one of various abusive titles, is not funny at all and has apparently no knowledge of cars, you all devote an awful amount of type on him and Top Gear.

He has created a genuinely entertaining program on cars - and broken the mould made by Top Gear, and copied by Driven, 5th Gear etc. Loads of guys at my office who dont have any interest in cars now watch it as it is entertaining. So many women now watch it as well, as it's now not dull and boring - most of us on here have a passion for cars and will watch anything about them - but the BBC have been brave and gone forward.

I think Clarkson talks rubbish half his life, but he is amusingly rude to all that disagree and atleast he give opinions - most idiots are too scared - for that I respect him immensely. His cool board is his - if we all agreed it'd be a boring world.

P.S Diesels are dull and uncool...imho

we do need the likes of him to voice what alot of us think generally. how he chooses to do so is up to him.

i have alot plannned for engine and suspension, and im doing my ARDS next spring.
so it will be cool to get amongst it!
