Massive Damage!
Bad luck Andy hope you get the car sorted soon.
A point from me why is it if a little fecwit coming home from school jumps out between two car or anything else and the poor driver doesent even have time to react it's always the drivers fault, absolute bollox why dont they teach the little feckwits some road safety, oh no that would cost money lets target the motorist thats a much better route, anyway on the way home from work today I get to a set of pelican traffic lights and guess what the little feckwits are running accross a main A Road not waiting for the light but dodging in and out of the cars moving up the road and we get the blame when we hit them not the fact that little johny has been playing the assh*le running across the road just to impress his mates or the girlies with them,I just wish the to$$ers in government would lay off the motorist a bit and educate the feckwits at school.
As for saying it's your fault for hitting somthing round a blind bend in the middle of the road, wake up ffs, if you're such a safe driver and stuck within the law all the time why the hell did you buy a scoob, you should have bought a metro or somthing
at least you wouldn't traverse round bends too quick for you to have an accident oh I forgot you don't have accidents
because you are the worlds safest driver

TurboTeeth...having just read your comments to P20SPD.....
nope. You still have my sympathies. I don't know how old you are, but you learnt a horrid horrid lesson there, and you have my utter utter compassion for how awful you must feel.
I am sure everything will be straightened out in no time.
Andy....sympathies to you too. I guess the underlying message to all of us is that NOBODY can be too careful, good or bad driver. It is all one big grey area, and unless any of us was behind that steering wheel at that moment, none of us can really comment.
I take it as read with every post on here that, as human beings (especially males!) we all suffer from the occasional high-spirited lack of judgement, but that for the most part we are all competant and safe drivers (apart from me, anyway: I suck!).
And guys, if you must flame people, lets flame demographic groups as opposed to individuals, please? It's more polite and far more entertaining!

Seems to be two issues here, 1. driving within visable braking distance & 2. being actually able to 'see' the danger.
Anyone IMHO who doesn't drive within their visible braking distance is asking for trouble sooner or later, we all tend to take familiar routes for granted & just because you can & have taken a particular blind bend hundreds if not thousands of times before, thats no guarantee that your not going to meet a stationary object on the other side, like a broken down car or a bolting horse.
The other issue is that you can only drive within your braking distance if you can actually see the 'danger' and this sounds like whats happened to you Andy, coming across a dark object (I hope the bin was the black plastic type) at night on black tarmac is going to catch most people out, kind of like a diesel spill or black ice- if you cant see it you cant really brake for it! ...unless it was one of those shiny metal jobbies, then pay attention to my first point! ...you muppet

Andy - sorry to hear about your accident, hope the scoobs back on the road soon.
But as for the "drive within your vision" bit of the flame war - nearly hit a kid in High Wycombe about three years who ran out between two parked cars in front of me. I was doing about 10mph at the time because of two kids on the other side of the road who looked like they were thinking of running across the road. So, if 10 mph is "too fast for vision" on the road - perhaps we should PUSH our cars around?
GET A LIFE!!!!
