Maybe you can answer this one.

Why the hell buy new in the first place?

You take a massive hit in the first year and the IM waranty, which is well worth having i have found, covers the car for 3 years irrespective of who owns it.

My car is an MY98 sport i bought as a one owner UK car with 5600 miles on the clock, almost brand new, was 11 months old and i paid £5500 less than list price.

The car developed a problem when 14 months old, the IM waranty is sorting that now, no problems, a very professional service at my dealers.

John
I don't know about sports, but with turbo models 7/8 months ago when I was looking, everybody was asking silly money for 2nd hand cars with not so low mileage.
Thats why I've bought new.
If I sell it in 12 months time (hypothetically speaking) it'll have 2 years warranty left, which I think is important if I was buying it and I expect you've found useful too.
Iain.

When i wanted to buy mine new (and 9 months later when she was due - the sccoby that is!), the dealers wanted 2k above list for a 1yr old scooby with at least 10k on the clock....thats why i bought new.....if the bubble has burst and the residuals have gone down then thats life i guess....we dont (all) buy scoobies to make profits on....we buy em to drive em.

I too went the offical route. I needed a new car before Jan 4th otherwise I'd be locked into the company car scheme for 3 years(2.5 Vectra!). I came across a cancelled order in Quenby's, had a test drive or two and week later I had the car. I had considered importing but nobody could give me a car sooner than 3 months. Sure I could have gone second hand but finding a good one would also take too long. I'm not too worried about the price I've paid as the company allowance takes care of it, sure 6K less would have been great but I could'nt work it in such a short timescale. I suspect I'll import next time as I'll have more time.

I am going for a NEW one for exactly the same reason - 2nd hand prices are way too high! (hope they'll stay like this when the time comes to sell mine )...

Went to check out Park Lane today. Very nice and friendly people, no hussle or "car salesman" type pressure. The only problem was that they only had one UK spec car (imported from Australia):

MY99, V reg, 200 miles, a/c, cat 2 alarm - £19,995 So less than £2k saving vs UK price (once you add a cat 1 alarm). So a no-go for me.

The rest were all Jap imports - various STIs (V3 to V6). And one gorgeous 22b for £38k I guess that will be my NEXT car - I'll have a bit of practice in the UK model first

Well, I reckon I've almost decided in favour of the UK official car which by the way I did go and see on Friday (poor little baby waiting in a dark garage to be picked up by his papa ). I've got one more contact I am going to try (PaulW - I still can't get a hold of Phil) just to be 100% sure - if that one fails to deliver an IMMEDIATE result in a shape of a brand new Scooby, well I'll join the ranks of the proud owners of "official" UK Scoobs!!!

Gotta get decisional pretty damn soon

To be continued...

Cool

My reasons for buying new are the same as Sunil and ian Plus other reasons.......

There are still idiots out there(not members of the bbs i hope !) who buy a brand new scoob and screw the backside off of it as soon as the dealer hands the keys over which basically kills the car from day one. Then sell the car six months later trying to make a quick buck!

Also i am not like other people who change cars quicker than the weather.....i drive the cars for years because i am happy with them (this will be my third car in 17 years of driving!)
So Depreciation means nothing to me but those that change every 2 years (owners not company car drivers)how much do you really lose?
I research the vehicles that i'm interested in go for a test re-evaluate then test again.
reasoning behind this is i am not gifted with a nurses salary( one bought a dodge viper after only 2.5 years of saving, a fireman would need 3-4years)
So the decision i make has to be the right one (not made a wrong one yet! I hope)

The end of the day i only ask for the car to start move and stop when i require and do the things i ask of it.
I thank you.

p.s. If the car faulters it gets shot!

Mine's a UK car

Mine's done 1100 miles

Mine's just had its first service

Marvellous.

You will have such a good time you won't give a monkey's what you paid for it.
