Rallyes don't have front foglights either, not that I care as they are useless IMHO.

The waranty on mine hasn't been tested too much, just an oxygen sensor so far, but I get the impression that the platinum one is pretty good. Depends on the dealer though I suppose.

Here was mine.....if you find this one, for goodness sake dont touch it, but they look good in black I reckon.

I considered the Rallye, I had a 106 Rallye 1.3, great car. However IMHO, the 306 rallye had lost the spirit. As I saw it was just a 306GTI 6 without the nice bits. Personally I dont think you could tell any performance difference in the two, and I actually wanted elec windows, air con, cd, leather etc etc....I just saw the Rallye as the poor mans alternative. If, Peugeot had upped the power, and really done a proper job like on the 106 then I would have gone for it every time. As it was, I eventually got an Integra Type R which was everything the 306 never was and everything the Rallye should have been. (Im not trying to push it cos I know its not in your price band). Having said that the 306 GTI was a very capable car, very civilized, people liked riding in it - and quite importantly I never remember thinking "chripes! this is costing me an arm and a leg to run" like I do the scoob!, though you can get £50 quids worth of fuel in the 306 which was quite a scary number

Well, if the 306 Rallye has "lost the spirit" then the 106 Rallye mk2 (the 1.6) was even worse then...

At least the 306 Rallye has the same engine & box as the GTi, wheras the 106 Rallye had the 1.6 8v engine, with less power, so not the car it could (or should) have been.

When I had my 106 GTi I always considered the 106 Rallye to be a the "poor mans" car, as you put it, as it was less powerful, slower, cheaper and had No toys at all. Wheras, if it had been just a stripped GTi with the same engine & running gear, then I'd have probably gone for one of them.

However, the 306 Rallye HAS got the same engine & 6 speed box, but it is 52kg lighter and IS quicker than the GTi-6 and has most of the uneccessary bits removed. Leather, air-con, fog lights, etc... I can live without, the only thing I'll miss is leccy windows (could be sorted though) and I still have ABS, remote central locking, CD player, etc... so nowhere as basic as the 106 Rallye's were.

The Clio Cup is just a modern version of this philosphy, but people love them...

RichD - I agree - I had a 1.3 rallye and also thought the mk2 106 rallye was a duffer in comparison, I too would have gone for the 106 GTI (it was a very well rated car and still is)

AS for the 306 Rallye Vs the 306 GTI, well I think thats really down to personal preference isnt it, it really depends what you wanted from the car, as I said I wanted the "toys" and hence went for the GTI. Howwever, I wonder how you can really notice 0.3 of a second on 0-60 time or am I missing the point perhaps, did the -52kg make the handling somewhat better?

Anyway If you love the 306 Rallye, I seriously recomend you look at an Integra type R soon, before they all get too many miles on their clocks, you would love it....I wish I hadnt got rid of mine, but when someone destoys it for you you dont have much choice!

Yeah, I know a couple of people that had the original 106 Rallye and they are a superb little car!

Before I bought the 306 Rallye I had looked at allsorts of stuff and I *very* nearly bought a 306 GTi-6, but when I saw this Rallye it was in such good condition, at such a good price that I decided I'd go for that instead. Basically I got a newer car, with less miles, in better condition, for the same money as the GTi-6 I was gonna buy, so that basically sealed the deal.

The lack of extra's doesn't really bother me that much, I've had them before and I'll have them again. The only thing I would have liked on the Rallye is leccy windows (could always sort that), everything else I can easily live without as the important thing, i.e. ABS is still there, unlike on the Clio Cup!

Like you say, not sure if you'd notice the 0.3s difference on the 0-60 run, but the Rallye is a second faster to 100mph, so that's the same as things like the new Leon Cupra R! Handling wise, both of them are rated as being superb and as far as I know they have the same setup, so like you say, unless that -52kg makes a difference I can't see there being any real difference?!

As for the Teg R... yeah, I do really like them and have considred one so I may look at one of those next!

It did look good in black(few years ago now though) until you got near and noticed the spray lines, as I said earlier I kinda bought it on the spur of the moment and just went for it(it had been smashed before hand) I now cant beleive i was so stupid but I guess you learn by your mistakes ay?

Its funny I remember now going to pick it up now, there was a 306 rallye in red that had just come in and I remember seeing it and thinking hmmmmmmmmmm ..........but had already paid for mine etc. Ironically that would have probably been a good car where as mine wasnt. Saleman must have been laughing as I drove that car off the forecourt, w4nker. I should have kept my 106 Rallye. It was a mega example, 1 owner -literally every little invoice, bill etc to go with it. I sold it for the 306 to a friend, he later stuffed it grrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, it does look nice in black. I was wanting a black gti-6 really, but then I saw my rallye for a price I could almost afford and I got carried away and so ended up with red. Was intent on de-stickering it etc, but they have grown on me now, and think it would be dull without them .

The price you can get them now is enough to make me cry .

Rich D, I assume you are the same rich D from PGAC.

ADP -

Sorry to hear about that...

Your 106 Rallye looks just like my mates did. His was an absolute minter too, in white, one previous owner, etc. and he was very happy he'd got such a mint example. But, after about 2 weeks a woman smashed into the rear/side and virtually wrote it off!

He got it re-built, but it was never right and he ended up flogging it quickly.

Why pay the higher insurance costs (XSI's are group 12)when you can have my 306xsi chipped, lowered plus many extras. 34800 miles, keypad alarm and immobilisor for £4000 ono? This was rolling roaded at 135bhp before superchipped. Estimate around 150bhp.
This car is immaculate, and previously featured in Peugeot Sport magazine. The passive rear wheel steer make these cars one of the best handling in it's class.
Let me know if you want to see any pics.

it was a pig to keep clean in black, think I was using Auto Glym polish on it. good results, but you need arms like Popeye.

I would love an integra type-R but if am going for one will have to hold off and save some more. I guess I would need at least £9K for and Integra is that correct.

What BHP are they anyway? and are they reasonably cheap to run in terms of servicing and fuel economy?

Thumbs up

Derek,

I had a black MY99 T reg Rallye for about 18 months and it was completly and utterly brilliant!!!

Only thing was, as I was using it as a daily runner got a bit bored not having leccy windows. Everything you don't miss IMHO, trim inside is nice too and makes it that bit different from the GTI's. Also (don't know how old you are etc) but get an insurance quote before you buy, as I found it to be a killer.

Hope this helps

Matt
