there was a guy in CCC magazine a while back that had a rally rover 200, with subaru suspension and drive train, but with a 2L 16V astra engine. Not much size difference between that and a pug surely.

Based on prices for imprezas now I would get a cheap one for around £5k and drive that, instead of messing around, no matter how expensive insurance is...

Need to sit down I think n have a major think about all this.. mid-engined could be easier... guess I could run the driveshafts straight outta the transmission and fix the front stub axles into the rear trailing arms.. hmmmm, that would be feckin easy actually. But wot about the fuel tank, i'd have to fit it under the bonnet... can the standard 1 be used along wiv some kinda protective roll cage under the bonnet? Or is that gonna b 2 dangerous? By mounting the engine in the rear I would have the full width of the car 2 play with and no suspension struts to get in the way... HMMMM very interesting, cheers boxer. Has any1 ever made a mid-engined pug, other than the T16?

its doable guys, ive seen 4x4 cossie engines, boxes and running gear in 205s and golf mk1s before so i dont really see the difference, 2b honest the way the scooby lump mounts is easier anyway. BUT these conversions are like 10k + so it definately isnt a cheap option

Do you not think that you should crawl before you can sprint??

If you don't have any mechanical experience then an Mi16 conversion will be more than enought for you to start with.

Why would an Mi16 with ie. head/cams/carbs or throttle-bodies not provide enough performance - It would easily be the match for a std. Scooby (regardless of what bodyshell it was in) and alot cheaper (like under 1K built for a mint car).

Ooops..Should have said 1K would be for a std. motor etc. Mods usually cost money.

Cheers kev, that is the solution if i can't do anything else... The mi16 would be very easy coz it just drops straight in, I thought about using a scooby engine mainly because I don't think any1 else has done it... i want to build something that hasn't been done b4 u c!

Agree with the running b4 i can walk statement!

Yes at last youre gettin somewhere. You could also fit the Mi16 4X4 gubbings along with your Mi16 motor. I would prefer to see cossie 4X4 running gear in it though. Both have been done before for a 1.9 roadcar.

cossie engines r really expensive tho aren't they compared to the price of an mi16? .... does the mi16 have torsion bar rear suspension?
