Does anyone here own a un-modified Subaru?
Started off with the idea to keep the car totally standard...
...1 year on and it's not. It is scoobynets influence. You read all the reports of great products on here and 1 month later you're there putting them on your car.
What ever you do don't go to Well Lane 4.......that will be dangerous to you credit card!!

I have a totally unmodded RB5 WR. I'm discounting the PPP as a mod because that was there from new on the WR. It even still has orange side repeaters and the orange grill things at the front.
I've had it since mid-June and I'm not going to mod it. It stays standard.

Dodge,
The gold painted sport wheels were standard on the Catalunya, so therefore it's a standard car.
If you take it to extremes, I suppose you'd have to count clear side repeaters etc as mods, so there are almost no standard cars out there.

This whole modding lark, much as it must be great fun, I just can't bring myself to do it - it's just such a financial throwaway.
To fully sort a scoob, assuming you start with a good base car in the first place, you're looking at:
£500 - exhaust, filter, clear blinkies..
£1000 - wheels + tyres
£1500 - brakes, braided cables, fluids
£1200 - adjustable suspenders
£1400 - Link ECU
£500 - driving lights
£400 - harnesses, bits and bobs
£300 - uprated clutch
=====
£7000 before you even buy a tank of fuel, or announce the mods to an insurer, and only then do you start thinking giant turbos and bored out engines...
and of course, if you are luxury oriented:
£1500 - hi-fi
£1000 - sat-nav
For a total of about £10000... and nothing added at resale time!
I can barely afford to insure, fuel and maintain my standard car...

Willster, Mods do seem to be cheaper these days, yes. But, don't you think Scoobs generally seem to be dropping in price, difficult to shift etc, judging by the number of for sale posts here? Is it worth getting a newer one if you're not going to make much back (or is the logic going a bit iffy here?)?
Maybe I just love mine too much and couldn't really bear to see it go!

Tedd,
Yes I bought my Std MY99 back in August and could probably get similar now for £1500-£2000 less than what I paid, partly due to new found knowledge courtesy of this forum, plus being 'wise after the event', plus recent pricing factors we all know about.
When I decided to buy a Scooby after ditching the idea of a new Civic Type R, I was pleasantly surprised by the choice available to me at the 5-odd dealers I visited. Most had been on the forecourts for 3-6 wks, ie. they weren't exactly going like hot cakes (all unmodded apart from one with PPP). However it still took quite a while to find one that felt 'right'. Now its like a new best mate!!
Don't worry it'll all change when the hype surrounding the new upstarts blows over and Subaru win the WRC again....

Mines a standard MY99 Wagon, but I'm putting a ProDrive BB this weekend
followed by some sort of induction.
I kept it standard for just over a year, but when you hear a Scoob with good 'pipe', you just can't help but want one!
I'm 32 ... mature? ... never.

My STi IV is completely standard. It's already got eveything I want (except a decent radio) so why change it? I chose the STi because I didn't want to have to mod a standard turbo.
Wilster, up to you, but most choose a PPP as they keep their warranty. If yours is MY99, you may not worry about this, and can get similar power for a lot lower price, if you wish.
Had a UK MY95 a while back that I didn't mod apart from brake improvements.
Thought I wouldn't be modding my second scoob (MY99) either, again apart from the brakes of course. However one de-cat downpipe and an Ecutek custom re-map later, I must say that I'm delighted with the results.

So based on the results so far, approx 90% of Impreza's have some sort of modification from when it left the dealers.
I bet that no other car manufacturer has this, amazing really.

Just modded my MY02 Sti7 last week - air freshner, too many passengers with too many brown trouser moments
Planning to add a bigger spoiler soon (see Styling) and maybe something to give it a bit more burble on the back end later.
Apart from that...well...what's to mod on an STi? I like the bugeye look so no changes there. I might consider chipping it up to 303bhp or going PPP if it becomes available here, but so far, I'm still undecided. "Da beast" is plenty fast enough as it is !!!
"What was that????"
"Dunno, but those gold alloys could do with a cleaning"
"Musta been a scooby then!"
As for "mature", I'm 43, having my mid-life crisis and am bl00dy well gonna enjoy it !

ROFLMAO @ David Wallis
My Sport is completely standard if you don't count mods you have not paid for (thanks Scoobyworld for the free Afterburner
)
Trouble is, I've fallen down the slippery slope and now have a shopping list as long as my tailpipe is round

Mine is 100% standard

Mine was standard when I bought it (from new). Thought it was great
at the time, and that modding it was 'too Max Power' for me. Then I found Scoobynet and met some other local owners. Now I have Goodridge brake lines, ITG filter, TSL backbox, smoked side repeaters, brake servo support bracket, Tecnomagnesio Indianopolis wheels.
And the 'would like to have' list is now longer than ever...
Edited to say I forgot about the 4 wheel alignment, and I'm one of these *ahem* 'mature' drivers (41 last birthday).

Std MY00 "except" for mp3 player and extra security... it goes fast enough for me. I'm sure if I did go for mods then I would quickly get used to the improved performance and want more. Selling a modded car on is also more of a problem as many people, given a choice, tend to prefer an unmodified car when buying.

When I phoned my dealer about modding my MY99, they said that they rarely get 99's back now, as most people who want to mod have already done so. BUT, when I asked what percentage of Turbos they've sold they reckon are now modded, the answer was a paltry 3%....!
