i have fitted 2 flamer kits in last few weeks, one to my MY95 wrx with full de-cat and a VTA and i get flames at almost every gear change(some go as high as the spoiler on over run).
also fitted one to a MY99 uk turbo with full de-cat and VTA and that gets no flames!
anyone any idea why???
both kits are fitted properly.
the only thing i can think of that is i use NF octane booster.

I think that the kit reccomends that you put the plug in the tailpipe as close to the back box as possible.
I have made up my own kit and have put two plugs in the tail pipe. I also found that having the plug gap set as wide as you can gets better results. With one plug turned on you get some pretty consistent large flames but with two on you need to have the fire brigade folowing you( thats when their not on strike!)

Yeah thats the problem, I reckon it would look odd having a spark plug stuck in the tail-pipe of a big bore exhaust like a Hiper or Nur Spec.
Can you mount it before the BB or would that screw up the system / exhaust / both?

James.

Not quite sure what angle your exhaust comes out but on my exhaust i have put the plug in the top of the tailpipe, from behind you can hardly even see it, its only if you get on your hands and knees that you can. The further down the exhaust system you put the plug, the smaller the flame will be
For example when/if you curently get small flashes that is because some of the fuel has ignited in the downpipe due to heat and has had to travel the entire length of the exhaust,
I think the blitz is a straight through system so you could try putting the plug the input side of the back box as opposed the tailpipe.

James,
Exactly what I was thinking, the Hiper has a 4 or 4.5" in tailpipe if mem serves me right, put a spark plug in there and the whole world and his mother will see it
Not willing to drill a hole in a hiper to fit a kit that anybody can see.

For those of you who've come to this a little late, like me, it's still possible to get one.
I spoke to Richard at SSC this afternoon (mentioned Scoobynet groupbuy) and he infomed me that it's still possible to get them for £80 each. Sadly I didn't think to ask if that would stand for everyone else but I can't imagine why not...
For more info. look here http://www.sccperformance.com/ or give them a call.

Everybody’s talking about where to stick it or will it work or not but am I the 1st one to get a producer for "HUGE flames which we could see for a mile" policeman’s comment...
Well this time it was just a producer, but is it illegal to have the flamer? I'm not asking whether it's legal but is it illegal to have one as the nice man in uniform couldn't get me for racing the car which I was just following turned it all on the flamer but wasn't sure at all in his voice as they normally are when telling you that you were speeding.
So is it illegal or not?

It's a deliciously GREY area Rob as money has said, it's not illegal to have one fitted to the car, it's just frowned upon using it on the road. Funny how the copper said bugger all about a full decat Oh sorry..another grey area
Incidentally, did you have your kit fitted?

Hello all.
I've spoken to a couple of scoobynet users in the past couple of days, who both expressed interest in the kit, but were afraid they'd missed the group buy price.
Just to let you know, we're able to extend the group buy to scoobynet users until the end of the first week in January (to allow for xmas spending, and NYE drinking!)
If anybody wants a kit, then register your interest here, and mail me at richard@sccperformance.com.
Any other enquiries or anything you wish to know, then I'm on 01727 867 747 anytime between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. Mon-Fri
As for the legal issue, it would appear to be a VERY VERY grey area. The same legal topic would cover the use of Nitrous on the road, and whilst fitted, there's nothing to prove you were actually using it. Some of the big bhp cossies flame anyway when the run massively rich........
A word of warning - DO NOT fit the kit into or before the backbox. The kit fits into the tailpipe as per the instructions.

Guys, have been reading what has been said about the flamer kits, but am a bit apprehensive- about setting my *** on fire!!!!
Doesn't it singe and wreck the paintwork on your rear bumper??? I only ask because although i've got a performance exhaust, it sits in line, or even a little deeper than the bumper above it. Heat rises, as do flames..... voila! the perfect flambe' d rear end.
Anyone accidentally lit up like this or does it not cause a problem? one other question - how heavy/ large is the kit, ie the coil?

well as you drive the flame is draged with the "wind" so it goes behind and not up, but you can always put the "metalic" plaster on to protect the bumper
it fits in the spare wheel bay next to the wheel which stays inside (caoil with a small box), sorry but have no idea about the weight.
hope this helps

Yeah i used a coil from a Nova, I found a ignition live in the car and tapped into it . Ran it through a switch, through an inline fuse and bolted it into the spare wheel well. Took a earth off the coil and atatched this onto the bolt that holds the boot lock mechanism.
Then used a long coil lead and ran it through the grommet in the boot.
Removed back box from car and drilled a hole slightly smaller than the plug, then tapped a thread in and screwed in the plug and connected the coil lead on.
Hey presto, flames for very little.
I have changed my system now and am using a professional mbile coil pack. The inlaw owns his own garage and has this black box that enables cars to run without an ignition module but puts out a serious amount of voltage meaning i can have a very large gap.
Am going to do a few runs tonight and will post my videos/pics later on tonight

Got one fitted to the Evo.
Made by Mr. 323GTR from here. Total cost (including coil from old Fiesta): £30.
Works a treat.
Richard, just out of interest, do you have any tips for people when they start to try drilling through stainless tailpipes.
Good luck is the first thing I'd say but be warned that you normally need special drill bits if you're going to drill through a HKS Hiper or any other stainless tailpipe. Your standard drill bits will just blunt too quickly.
Another thing Richard,
I notice that you mention not to put it before or inside the backbox. Have you had people who have blown their bb's apart from this?
