Audi S3 with 350bhp
#31
out of interest... posted by a fello VW owner just back form Jabba...
Ello peeps.. As some of you know.. I went to Jabbasport today for an ecu re-map..
I am impressed!
It took a tad longer than I expected.. And I froze my nutz off while waiting around on such a cold day.. But it was worth it!
As standard, the engine was found to be pumping out around 175bhp. Already 25bhp up on VW's quoted figures of 150bhp. Michael Trulock (Jabba's top man) said this is a pretty typical figure for 1.8 Turbo engines in Bugs. But he did say my Bug had an unusual power curve, in that it was kinda lumpy as standard, with a big drop off in torque high up in the rev range. The level of boost was fluctuating a lot, apparantly..
Still.. Michael worked his magic.. And a few hours later, my Beetle is blessed with an amazing 228bhp!
Is it rapid? You better believe it is.. (I can honestly say that nothing kept up with me on the way home! )
The power is very smooth too.. No surging or anything.. In fact, the power comes in so smoothly, that traction is still surprisingly good, considering the car still rolls on standard wheels and tyres.
And also keep in mind, the engine has next to no other modifications.. Even the airfilter is still stock. As is the downpipe and exhuast etc.
The only modifications prior to the remap, is a new DV (See my other thread), a Turbo S vented wheel arch liner (For cooler intercoolerness) and the engine is fed on a diet of Shell Optimax fuel (Not exactly a modification).
Oh, and I also got the standard chip back. Which Michael will solder back in FOC, should the need arise.
Verdict?
£425 bloody well spent!
