I can 't even remember the last time I went out in the scoob without getting the wrong side of a ton

Please send someone round to arrest me straight away, I am a danger to myself, society, kids, dogs, sheep, pensioners, people in sh!te cars, people in scoobies religiously sticking to the speed limit at all times... the list goes on.

Charlie.

some of you sound like max power has taken over scooby net, whats this "if you dont do 120+ you shouldnt have a scoob" bullsh1t?

if i own a shotgun should i use it to rob banks and kneecap old ladies?

when you buy a £25k + car you want more than being able to drive like a **** from it, that why they use a brochure to give you lots of usefull info on your purchase.

clearly by the time the car has dropped to cheap retard levels there is no need to impart such detail cause you just want to know if it goes fast....muppets.

FFS. You bunch of pathetic children.

So unless I hoon around at 3-figure speeds like a complete **** the whole time I shouldn't buy an Impreza? What a load of unadulterated, Max-Power bullsh*t.

It's threads like these that make me really glad I no longer own a Scoob. They're too cheap, and too widely available these days - any immature, irresponsible muppet can get behind the wheel, and I'd rather not be associated with that.

Thumbs up

Tiggs,

I don't agree with driving like a tw@t, and it annoys me when I see people driving agressively or dangerously on public roads, but I think some people's reaction to speeding is just ridiculous and also unbelievable. I freely admit that I break the speed limit the whole time, mainly on dual carriageways when traffic is quite light. I just think for people on this bbs to come over all feckin crimewatch about breaking the speed limit is a joke.

I think we are going off topic a bit.
120 is to fast and its not to be praised, but we have all done it at some point and I feel some peple forget that.
I think it's wrong to slag Aust off and have ago at him, he's the best person to judge whats a safe speed, because we weren't there.
Regardless what the police say, speed doesn't kill, careless driving does.
I speed when i think it's safe, ie open roads at night and on clear motorways.
I do less than 30 in urban area's and generally drive like an old fart in town.
Does this make a ****** and a tosser and every other insult going that people like to throw about without knowing the facts.
Motorist who speed aren't the scum of the earth, ****** who just drive in the middle lane are, you know what I'm talking about.

forget the scum stuff, forget the high moral ground stuff...this is a you are stupid, we are not response.

in life there are a number of things we all do/say that would get us in trouble if done to a greater extent or at an inappropriate time.

for example a sexist/racist/fatist/ageist gag will be told in most pubs around the world every day. go tell one at the Indian Womens Overweight Club For The Elderly and you would be on thin ice, so to do it is stupid. Thats why ppl like Stan Boardman get grief, not cause his jokes are worse than many millions of others- just inappropriate at the pont of telling them.

its the same here, yes we speed but to do so at 122 is not inappropriate in the moral sense (well maybe not, circumstances are not know) it is inappropriate in the "do you have a braincell mate" sense. Anyone doing 120+ is likley to be in big trouble if caught so dont do it or do and face the music.

The majority of people do exceed the speed limit at some time – maybe regularly – I put my hand up to doing so. But I am fully aware of the consequences that I face if I got caught before I do it ie. ban/fine/points etc.

So surely you should have asked yourself this question and been prepared Aust, BEFORE you decided to break the speed limit . I can’t actually believe you are getting sympathy from some people and saying you were unlucky to get caught. I certainly wouldn’t expect any if/when I got caught - nor would I think I had been unlucky - it's a risk I choose to take! I know you haven’t asked for sympathy but unquestionably by asking this question – you were bound to get some.

To all those people on this thread that think it is cool to drive at double the speed limit, regardless of where and when, I suggest you go and get a court summons for doing so. There is nothing more sobering than knowing that you are going to get done in court of law, in front of the press etc etc. Try walking to work for two months because a magistrate has a bad day and decides to revoke your licence. Enjoy the personal freedom that having to ask for lifts everytime you need to go somewhere gives you. Remeber, I've been there. It wasn't big, it wasn't clever, its something that five years later I still regret doing. I guess banning me had the desired effect.

I really hate this assumption that because you own a car that is capable of breaking the speed limit that it should always be driven with your foot to the floor, and to drive it any other way means that you are old or incapable. If you really believe this, you need to get a grip. Fast cars are more than just driving flat out everywhere. You can do that in any car, regardless of what it is. I prefer to use a bit of power to overtake where needed, not to prove that I can drive without thought or consideration for other drivers on the road.

Oh, and by the way, speeds in excess of double the speed limit start to wander into the 'dangerous driving' territory, not just speeding. Try insuring anything other than a reliant robin with that kind of conviction on your licence.

thats my point, driving at that speed at that time is not dangerous or moraly wrong (to me) but it IS stupid unless you are happy to except that if caught you are in trouble.

Ima - you still the man !

The pseeding thing is very simple. Circumstances dictate how morally questionable a speeding offence is. Taken out of context, a lot of speeeding offences can be misconstrued.

I got done 56 in a 30. If I posted that on here as a thread, I'd get slated for eternity. When you find out that I was travelling in a 60 limit, on a four lane stretch of the A1, and the limit dropped for a camera in roadworks that were no longer there, then it's more understandable.

Unfortunately, speed at the appropriate times is morally right in your eyes, but the law is finite, and imposes limits so as not to question your ability to put yourself above the law and make judgements as to what one person CONSIDERS to be acceptable.

I never speed....... cos my car is always broken

Much better to get caught for a fast oneoff than totting up, totting up usually get 12 months plus fine but as you can see from previous posts, get a good lawyer and you should hope fully get 2 to 4 weeks plus a large fine, clean licence back, much better .

In fact most people drive at 80-90 on the motorway, rising tottin up and ultimatley a 12 month ban. in fact you should try to drive at say 105+ and just pay the fine and go on a two week holiday.

Speed hardly ever causes an accident it can be a contributing factor, but usually it is somebody doing something else wrong that causes accidents.

The US has a lower limit but more accidents than Germany, this graph is abit old but shows death per Km of motorway against speed limits.

In 1999 Britain had 3580 road deaths, the lowest percentage in relation to population in Europe and most of the victims were pedestrians and most of those cases the pedestrians were the parties at fault and caused the accident that killed them. Source International Road traffic and Accident Data Base.

I don't have any problem with speed as long as it is not done in dangerous place or situation. I don't think sending you to jail would benefit you or society.
It certainly wouldn’t be fair as they let violent car stealing ******* off all the time.

stay below 70 well 170 till the case comes up.
Drive safe and don't endanger others.

IMO people who do 30-40mph on a single road that has a 60mph limit should be fined. They are far more likely to cause accidents, having frustrated drivers stuck behind them for miles on end and making them take chances to overtake, where they normally wouldn't.

Whats worse, 90 mph on a wide open A road, or 45 mph through my local village??.... me doing 90 by the looks of it.

Thats what the magistrate thought too. Its a shame that time of day, weather, location, car being driven, drivers experience, drivers ability etc etc aren't taken into consideration. I remember a while a go a guy in an NSX being caught at 140mph+ on the motorway. The police tried to prosecute him for dangerous driving, he proved, by virtue of advanced driver training and various track day outings, that the driving was not dangerous as he had effectively trained and could prove high speed car control.

It looks like it was a good get out clause. He still got fined andbanned though, but not jailed.

I haven't stopped laughing at this post - it cracks me up when people post about 135mph on a dual carriageway. Fair play I know its a bit irrisponsible but some things just make me chuckle..

There was that mad Jap doing near 200 on the A1...

122? Pfff, rather sluggish.

Next time, do it properly. I can recommend the M20 into Kent, the long hills allow you to build up some proper speed (personal best - 175 against an M3) yet you can see for miles.

However, when you get into built up areas, I suggest you slow down - 120 should do it, unless it's a school, in which case drop to around 90ish and make good use of the wipers to get rid of the blood.

im no stranger to speeding when i feel (a) its "safe" to do so, and (b) when im not likely to get caught.

Ive had my car at just over an indicated 160 mph with revs to spare (private road of course lol). I normally do not stick to any speed limit unless i deem it necessary to. Speeding isnt necessarily the problem, its excessive speed in the circumstances ie, the area, weather, car, driver knowledge, schools etc etc.

Having a 70 mile an hour speed limit on an open motorway with good driver/ car, favourible traffic etc is a bit pointless really.
