122.4 MPH in a 60MPH Area - What will I get?
#31
>>We don't know the circumstances of this 122.4mph. It could have been a flat, straight road in the middle of nowhere where you can see 2 miles+ ahead. You never know.
I don't know about you, but for me to speed at over 100+, I would at least confine it to a motorway / dual carridge??
If a dual carridge way was set at 60 there are potentially speed and safety concerns, otherwise a 70 limit would have been imposed?
I don't mean to say that a 60 / 70 limit on the roads makes it OK to speed. Just don't come crying for sympathy if you get caught!

You are 30 mph over the speed I was doing when I copped a 56 day ban 5 years ago (92 in a 60). I would consult a solicitor asap, prison is certainly a great possibility when you are doing double the speed limit. If not, expect a looooooong ban and a biiiiiig fine.

My old boss got caught doing 146mph in a 60 zone (Sedgeberrow Bypass near Evesham) in his Esprit Turbo. 8 week ban £400 fine 10 years ago. He did trade the car for a Landcruiser before the case was heard though. "The car made me do it, I kept hearing these voices from the engine, Go Faster, Go Faster". But its gone now, I promise i'll be good, my new car won't do more than 90mph, etc etc

In the wilds (and not so wilds) of Scotland there are many single carriageway roads with 60 mph limits where the only danger of doing 120+ mph is to yourself or any unfortunate wildlife that happens to be in the way
Long straight quality surfaced roads with excellent sightlines.
depends on the circumstances, but no different to 140+ on a 70 mph motorway/dual carriageway.
So give the quy a break or buy a smart .
Innapropriate speed is the issue, and I'll bet everyone on this BBS with a license has driven at an innapropriate speed at some point!

Dont think about the prison thing, not going to happen. Just realise that you will definately loose your licence for 12mths automatically. THEN think about the hefty fine the magistrate will impose as well.
Any speeding offence over and above 100mph is an automatic ban.
speeding go up in stages for every 10mph over the limit in the offence area/location.
if you are needing your licence for "work", then you definately need a good sob story letter from your boss, as to why you need your driving licence, same goes for you, need good mitigating circumstances, will go a long way to "lessen" things.

Stop all this, you'll go to prison rubbish, you'll give the guy a breakdown.
Personally, I think it is disgusting that you can go to prison at all for speeding, but it would appear that that is now a danger!!!
Matt.

MarkO got to agree!
I have another real example for you:
114.3mph - M180 Motorway 70 limit - VASCAR (5 months for summons) 28 day ban, £250 fine, 0 points, £50 court costs, £300 solicitor fee. Renault Megane 1.9 DTi
If you speed you should be aware of the risks you are taking with yourself, your car, your license and everything else around you.

Don't start spouting some crap about "the kids". I've done 120 in scotland in the middle of know where, I wouldn't do it in built up area's(60's).
Stop talking out of your fat asre.

We are not on about speedin in the highlands..although the sheep are my concern....I am on about people saying that goin to prison aint right for excessive speedin...and doin 122.4 in a 60mph zone....where was this?
Now quit the hard talkin...and except we all have different views.
BTW nice user name...very fitting..

Nice to see all the replies, the good ones and the bad ones.
I got caught @ 10:30pm on a dual carriageway that had some work being done on the hard shoulder. Signs should speed limit to be 60.
There was no traffic, its a straight road and I know it very well.
Yes I was a complete to$$er for doing that speed, I cant argue with that. My intention of posting this was to canvass opinions on what conviction I would get, not to have a debate on the issue of speed. Perhaps I have be naive in expecting people to comment without telling me what I already know.......that I should not have done this.
Be honest....some of you have never broken the speed limit???..I think not.
I will take whatever punishment they decide to give me, I just wanted to be prepared.

Now that aint clever, esp. as a blow out or something simular would have ment possibly colliding with innocent people.
Not just the speed thats an issue for you, its the place, an open road is one thing, where you were is another!

well mate you will get a pat on the back from me
I dont know how you had the ***** to give it some, because round here the place is swarming with the coppers, hiding behind hedges, bushes etc etc. This is mostly on roads where its safe to do a bit more than the speed limits(in the hills),hence the money making men.
All these people are slating you because you had a little fun in your motor, bet they never speed do they!!!
well done

Yes, we have all exceeded the speed limit at one time or another - its the 122.4 in a 60 that shocks somewhat!!
I can HONESTLY say that the fastest I have ever been in a car is about 126 in my Calibra - on the A27 by Brighton - but that is the one and only time as it scared the sh1te out of me!! Those gentle flowing bends are NOT gentle flowing bends at that speed!!
If you regularly do that kind of stupid speed then you deserve to be smacked by Imathickarse AND Bumcrack!!!! As they are big tough guys I reckon thats punishment enough!
Pete

Unlucky Aust, I suspect you will be looking at a ban of 6-12 months
These sort of threads always result in this sort of reaction around here I'm afraid.
Pete, etc. if you regularly drive at high speeds your style of driving adjusts, you look further and further ahead and learn to become very smooth. To drive once at 120+ if you normally drive around 70 is going to be a culture shock, however, for someone who normally travels at that sort of speed it is as comfortable for them to drive at as you find 70. I drive a lot slower now than I used to (possibly down to my car red lining in top at 124, and that it feels like you are in the middle of a hurricane once you get into 3 figures) but I still remember how comfortable it was to sit at big numbers day in day out. Just because you don't feel comfortable doing it, doesn't mean other people don't, or that it is necessarily dangerous.

Yep, agreed I got nicked @ 13mph above limit coming down a hill near preston
Personally I'm too worried to drive quickly around lancs (no problem down here though )
