Absolutely...They're 100% better - Slightly longer throw of light (probably something to do with the focal length of the new bulb) and roadsigns, reflective jackets on cyclists and white lines in the side of the road are all picked out much more clearly and earlier than before.

Hey, just noticed this thread (must stop by lighting stuff etc more often). I'm hooked as these type of lights are excellent on my mate's Audi TT. Couple of questions B4 I commit me cash (I take it I've got until the 31/Oct).

I have an MY01 WRX with standard bugeyes - I guess I need the H4 HiLow kit?

Does the high/low beam work properly with this kit?

If I sell the car can I replace the original equipment and keep the HID for my next car (and buy a different bulb if necessary)?

If I buy morettes at a later date will the kit I buy now fit?

When I order do I specify my car and do I order online and then email Janet for the discount?

Sorry so many questions but a lot of cash for me and the thread seems to be mainly STis.

It depends what car and which lamps you have.....

If it's an STi7, for high beam you want an HB3 (9005) kit

Got my 6000k H7 kit fitted now to my BMW 5 Series (E39). Fitting was not half as bad as I originally thought it would be - might have something to do with having a lot more room under the hood than Scooby owners have got.
I got over the battery in the boot problem by routing the positive feed from the bolt on the top middle of the engine, which is the booster cable point. Thankfully the bolt was not a tempered one and was therefore quite easy to drill through to facililate the fitting of a very snuggly fitting self tapping screw to attach the positive feed. The negative feeds were easily picked up from several points around the engine bay - easy peasy!
I appreciate this information may not be useful to everybody on this site, since most of you will innevitably be driving a Scooby, but you never know, someone else with a Beemer might want to do the same conversion at some point.
The light output is excellent. I used to use H7 bulbs before which were sold as HID look / equivelent, but let me tell you that no way is that so. As a comparison I put my old HID look H7's in my main beems now and when I flick to main beam, firstly there is hardly any extra light output over my dips, the proper kit I have just upgrade to, and secondly, where I thought I had a "white" light before, it is positively yellow in comparison to the new one I have just upgraded to. I don't regret spending the money on this kit at all - I can see where I'm going now!!

 

I have a question which is totally unrelated to this board and that is, does anybody know IF and WHERE one can buy Chrome wheels in the UK any more these days?

 

Jacey Boy: I live in Warsaw, Poland and drive STi7 (bug eye). I really want to upgrade to HID and I have a couple of questions regarding the kit from autolamps:

1) Are you sure that H1 bulbs fit? I thought the bulbs are H7?
2) Is the installation easy, can you do it yourself and does it require any cutting, glueing and any dirty work like this?
3) Did you have a chance to compare the 4000 against 6000, I wonder if this 20% difference in brightness is visible..?

 

I've got an STi7 and went Autolamps HID on dip and main from last years group buy. For STi7 the dip is H1 and the main beam is 9005. The bug eyed WRX had H7 for one or both of the beams, forget which, but not the STi.

 

I mentioned my Autolamps H1 kit on another forum this evening, and I thought, I wonder . . . and I did - I found this bulk-buy thread.

I can recommend them - my kit was fitted back when this kicked off into my 1989 Lancia Delta integrale 16V to replace 5yr old upgraded halogens . . . 3 yrs, and 40,000miles later, I sold it and transferred the kit into the replacement 1991 Lancia Delta integrale evo1. . . 17 yrs and 100,000 miles later (its not done so much in the last 7 yrs admittedly - it got relegated from everyday duty to not quite so everyday duty until this last crazy year when its been my main car again).

They still work each and every time, still light the road up well. Several cheap ebay etc kits have been in and out of the main beams in that time - none of them have lasted. The crazy decision to spend all that cash all that time ago has worked out pretty well!
