I would think you are gona have probs mate with the length of the cable, BMW's do indeed have the batteries in the boot where as we have them under the bonnet.
I would speak to Autolamps again to discuss this matter and see if they can supply a much longer loom, but even so its gona be a nightmare to run the cable from the boot to the bonnet

Doesnt the starter motor have a monster cable, Just tap into that or the altenator.
I've done some testing on the new kits that come without starter's,there built in the ballast and they dont pull the amp's like the old ones with seperate starters do.
inrush even when warm is around 7amps

You don't want to tap into the alternator output as it will be fluctuating current.
The starter feed would be better.
There should also be a heavy duty feed to the fuse/relay box under the bonnet you can tap into which would probably be best of all.
The ballast earth can go to any good chassis earth.

Well, I managed to fit it. I have to say the wiring loom is not the best designed kit I have ever seen. Thanks to Big Goon and Dave for writing your experiances in fitting them, invaluable.
Just driven in the dark, and boy is it bright!!!!!!
At last, my scooby is as I want it, and I can now annoy BMW X5 owners

Does anyone know of a competent car electrician/mechanic that can fit some H7 HID's into my Vectra?
I am based nr J3 of M3 in Surrey or can come to you. I'd prefer to pay a set price not per hour.

Firstly although the BMW group buy has finished the Scooby GB is still running so you can come to us from here. I have passed your kind words to Janet as we do try very hard to offer a service that people are happy with.
I must apologise to all the customers who have bought their kits and found that the fitting instructions are not that clear. You will note that they are generic for any car with H7 halogens for example. They are today not specific for the Impreza but we are trying to get together with a local Impreza specialist so that we can design a custom made harness and fitting kit. We will then list it on the site as the Subaru Impreza kit and I hope this helps.
We will tally up this weekend as it seems that we are very close to 20 kits. This will mean that the discount will go up to 15% and this is applicable for all products and forum members from Scoobynet. The refunds will all be done automatically and we will send you a mail just so you know the refund is on its way.

Ok, to everyone who bought in on this HID upgrade... could we see some pictures and thoughts on the kit??
I am particularly interested in those who purchased kits for morette fittment in the old style subaru. This is what I am planning to do, and would like more information about it - and how it all went...

What do you want to see? It all goes inside the headlamp unit, and looks like standard from the outside
Also, most of the kits bought have been fitted to STi7's, not the old shape car

info - how well they fit, how easy to adjust, general thoughts on the kits - were they worth the money? Problems, hassles, good points etc etc

The standard Morette headlight housing is not tested to house xeon bulbs which is what HID is, is there any info regarding the temperature increase and what is the possibility of the housing melting or catching fire, or does this sort of risk not worry anyone? if it is indead a risk. Opinions please.

Wurzel - this is exactly a point... what sort of temp ranges are there?? hotter etc?? What documentation have any of you got regarding the use of these with the plastic reflectors???
And not forgetting the voltages in question...
I know full well they are brilliant - but not even these companies can supply me with any more info than what is on their site!

Typical halogen lamp is rated at 61watts and over 90% of this is given off as heat. Xenon discharge is 35 watts of which less than 30% is given off as heat. Firstly have have a read here

Got my 6000K units fitted - They're awesome.
Makes the Phillips Bluevision bulbs that I got for free from Autolamps for my fogs, look positively candle-like.
