Just thought you would like to know the outcome of this
He was starting to think he had got away with it but after hearing nothing for over five months he finaly got a court date.
He has ended up with a 35 day ban and 300 pound fine which was a damn sight better than he was expecting.

just wait until he tries to get any insurance...
I talked my way out of a 7 day ban (AFAIR) and got points / fine instead but the number of insurance co.s that wouldn't have touched me with a sh*tty stick even if it was just a 1 day ban
A lot of co.s go on the offence code as to how they treat you...

Id say hes come out of this one quite well. Insurance will be high, but not impossible. A mate of mine got banned some years back, and none of us knew until recently. Hes been driving Boxsters, Scoobys, a Tuscan an S2000 and a 996 Turbo since. He has a big wallet, but like I say it is possible to get insurance after a ban

It is simply obscene and perverse to waste taxpayer's money mounting helicopter patrols for speeding drivers.............what twisted priorities. I bet there are whole areas of depressed south Wales cities that are plagued by crime and antisocial gangs of youths making hard working, taxpayer's lives a misery. Yet they persecute the good guys.
Can't wait to retire, Barbados here I come.....

Agree about choppers being an obscene waste of money, what to55ers the police have become. I used to have some respect for the police, but they have eroded by respect with the stupid enforcement of insane laws in an indefenseable manner. No wonder the average member of the public holds the police in such distain.
Its very sad for "real" law and order.

What a lucky b@stard. He got off lightly.
The insurance may not be such an issue, as long as he makes it clear the offence was on a bike (which he no longer owns), and not in a car. After my ban (see above) my insurance was unaffected for the first year, and although it headed skywards in the following 4 years, so did everyone else's (with JDM STIs) so it wasn't all bad.
The ban comes off the licence in July, so I'm looking forward to a vaguely sensible premium this year.

The Choppers get used for this when things are slack, rather than the crew sitting on the ground waiting for a call they are doing routine traffic work, still have to pay wages, storage maintenance if it does nothing so they may as well use it !

It's not the first helicopter conviction I've heard of for speeding - a friend got done for 142 (also a bike) on the M40 in the middle of the night.

The costs go through the roof as soon as the engine is running, and thats not including the fuel costs.
Hobbs Meter anyone?

Its a bit of a joke really and hypocritical when coppers get high and mighty about speeding and spend so much time catching people for doing it on open roads away from pedestrians etc.
Coppers are worse than English football referees, absolutely no consistency or fairness in how they treat individuals. A law is a law fair enough, but in that case it applies to everyone, not just ones they select to book and then let others off
The courts are just as bad. Just the examples on here show the varying degrees of punishment that can be dished out. How can that be just or fair on the motorist when one will get prison/fine and someone else gets let off scott free?
Just as an example...
I bought my scoob off a traffic copper/advanced instructor. When I took it out for a test drive I was extremely reserved. He turned to me and asked me if I was actually going to drive the car and see what it could do I was like yeah this might be dual carriageway but its a 40 zone and I'm sitting next to a traffic copper. He told me to floor it and he would tell me when I was doing the appropriate speed and where any cameras were He even got me to undertake some silly bint who was trying to race us (I think he must have been in the zone or something as I got free advanced tuition while driving, he didn't stop talking the whole test drive )
He got me upto 110mph in a 40 zone I was much but truly shocked that he condoned that sort of behaviour.
What I don't understand if its ok for them to do that sort of thing and say its fine for me to do it, why is it a totally different situation when they stop you for doing the most stupidly small amount over the speed limit, ie my dad got stopped for 35 in a 30 (not near a school or anything and it was early in the morning and no one about) by some trumped up little hitler
Just doesn't make sense to treat everyone differently for the same offence IMHO.

Too late for a long winded reply lol. But id say generally stuff speed limits out of residential areas, and seriously reprimand INAPPROPRIATE SPEED. There are too many people getting fined banned etc for speed when dangerous driving is overlooked.
This is a total disgrace IMHO. What on earth is this speeding policy coming to, soon well have a bloke in fronf of each car waving a red flag, theres a step into the future

The thing to add to that is that the speeding laws date back decades when cars were no where near as safe as they are today, and far more capable of handling higher speeds safely. 70mph on the motorway is a joke im my opinion, that might have been appropriate for the old bangers of the 70's but not certainly not now.
This countrys laws are so outdated it stinks, and the reason being is because the House of Lords is so full of skeletons that until people with a more modern outlook on life replace them it wont change.

I agree with b2z on this - as it stands speed limits are totally arbitary. It is obviously safer to do 80 mph on a motorway in modern car with ABS etc than it would be to do it in a ford anglia or whetever was about when they introduced the 70 limit. People can argue that if the speed limit was raised, there would be more accidents, fatalities etc, but the evidence for this is far from conclusive. Even if it is proved, the logical argument would then be to reduce the limit even more to prevent more accidents. Ergo if the speed limit was zero - no accidents...
