Mike,
Did I say lay money -doh!
Then it's something like a Soarer or 300zx?
Assuming it's a production car?
I won't be able to see as I now can't go to Donington. So you're gonna have to tell me!
And it's obviously not a Skyline - unless you are a hypocrite.
Hopefully I'm gonna be at MK for the karts - I'm too shallow to resist a challenge!

This may interest you. On my 'Downpipe' topic, Nathan from NZ reckons he's done a 10.248 sec 1/4 mile(?), terminal speed 104 mph(?), with a, wait for it.......stock 260ps WRX!!!!?????
Hows about then then?

Just a thought but, why not save some money and buy a mercedes CLK-GTR. It WILL work out cheaper in the long run, it leaves your cossie for dead and I can let you have one for a bargain £1,100,000!!

If you want to know more about the car e-mail me direct.

Oh yeah - it was donnington, and it was this year! I must stop taking all those class A drugs....

It just seemed to us that every time we went past, there was you, with lots of people waving out the window, stuck in yet another trap - highly entertaining

Though not as entertaining as those two black BMWs...did you know Jan Morbidelli was driving one of them? (or so I was told...)

If you want to spend that sort of money you couldn't afford the LM. As you probably know there are only five so whoever owns them can sell them for whatever they want. The service on the standard F1 is £25,000 but it will be considerably higher for the LM. The insurance will also be near on impossible to get as the car is so rare. Still that quote for insurance is crap. I had a quote that was less than that and I was only 20 at the time. It wasn't much less but it was less. I personally wouldn't want either. Lambo for me.

Interesting piece in car about the pair of F1's this month.
The LM is quicker to 180, but the std is faster there on. I think it was about 6 secs 170-190. Which isn't bad.
Makes you laugh thinking about it. Or 1 sec 50-70.
Wouldn't that be fun at Donington. Think I'd give up 4wd for that.

Dear Liam,
Would love to know your broker, as my mate got quoted £16k for a bog standard Escort Cossie (was only 17 at the time, and statistacally they told him that anyone that age with that car would die twice in a year!). In the end he put it on his Dad's company's fleet insurance for a couple of hundred (insured any driver with £5k excess for anyone under 21!). He had an Escort Cossie for 4 years (and is still alive!) is now 21 and has an M3 Evo....(yawn!) having got rid of his 436bhp Escort to some 40+ woman who "always wanted one" (and drives it like Miss Daisy in low boost ALL the time!).

Accordingly, I would imagine the premium SHOULD be considerably more for you, unless you did it a similar way?

I just called around. When I had the cossie my worst quote was £5,500 from Endsleigh. I ended up getting it for £2,700 from Bennetts! At the time I was 19 and had no no claims bonus, would of had two years but my sister crashed my car just before I swapped over. I asked about insurance on a Dodge Viper from Bennetts at the same time and that was only £5,500! The bloke said that they couldn't charge anymore than that for any car! He is probably bending the truth slightly there but that was the quote he gave me. He even willingly gave it to me in writing.

I have a trade policy now which is an any driver any car policy for any vehicle below £50,000 trade value! This cost £2,500 with 4 named drivers. I have only ever been on my dads policy as an additional driver on his cars. I now drive an EVO 6 using the company policy, well I will once a new fuel tank has been put on it. Had a bit of a problem on the M25 on Sunday.

Make a few calls and see what happens.

While we are on the subject, who knows of decent insurance companies for bikes?

Dear Liam,
Norwich Union seem to be pretty good at the moment (on a ZZR1100 anyway!). Also with their policies it covers you to ride any other bike of same or lower engine size....

However, due to the spate of thefts (and crashes from the "born agains" on their R1s!), the premiums have jumped HUGELY this year (only hope you're over 25 now - if not lots of luck!).

Hurry up and get the Evo on the road to show up the Scooby boys!

Norwich union are the best that I've found so far. £3069 for a Ducati 748R. £400 cheaper than a CBR600F and £600 cheaper than R6. Confused the hell out of me. Lots of luck needed as I'm only 21, nearly 22 though, not that that will help.

I should have the EVO back Friday ready to take to Cornbury Park and Blenhiem Palace. It only needs a new tank due to the old one being ripped in two my something. Whatever did it sliced the tank in half straight done the middle very cleanly. No-one knows what did it.

I'll attend Santa Pod next year sometime after a bit more wedge has been spent on the car. Hopefully be able to the 1/4 in 10-11 seconds, clutch allowing.

John.

That particular day was an SIDC day, so you wouldn't have been there then.
I've done a few 'Trak Attacks' thius year as well, but I can't remember the dates.
Do you recall seeing a green 4 door Scoob?

not sure, there was quite a few scoobys there.
Mine were track attack days also.
On one day there was a nutter in a single seater another a ferrari 355 put it in the wall.
My car was the white saphire cossie 2WD that was spinning the wheels from the final hairpin to the start/finish line, it was chucking out some cracking flames from the exhaust aswell

DONNINGTON 20 NOVEMBER 1999
Dear All,
It really pains me to say this, but you aren't a bad lot afterall! Perhaps a little misguided in your choice of car, but apart from that, nice friendly people! It pains me even more to say that despite being a boring road car, the Scooby actually makes a FANTASTIC track car (tell anyone I said this, and I'll plead the fifth!), where its on the edge controllability / adjustibility reminded me so much of the early M3s that it was very uncanny..... On the road it is just too safe and boring for my liking, yet on the track where you can step outside the boundries of its safe handling and glue like handling without worrying about oncoming traffic, the car is transformed.

However, one thing I did notice and that was the lack of brakes - it seems completely incomprehensible to me to endow a car with supercar handling and performance and then give it brakes off a Ford Fiesta! The difference that big brakes gave to Stef's car (and if you think his are good, my discs are 1" bigger still - ner!) had to be experienced to be believed. Which brings me nicely to my next bit.....

Dear Stef,
Thanks ever-so for taking me round and showing me that a Scooby can be fun and can be got sideways (with the help of monster brakes!). I came away with deep respect for your car and your driving capabilities. I still think that my car would leave yours, but ONLY because of the power advantage where I would be able to pass you on any of the straights (for you to regain all the ground again on the corners!), as with 419 bhp and 2wd you have to be careful when applying the throttle (unless you want to face the other way!). Whereas I noticed that once you were in the apex of the corner you could nail the throttle and the front wheels would help pull the car round.

If I had 100bhp less, then I know that even with 50bhp more than you, it would probably be an impossible struggle to even stay with you, let alone pass! Obviously, we will have to wait and see next year how the cars (and drivers!) perform against each other....

My only regret is that I didn't get another go.....

Dear Anders,
Thank you so much as well for taking me round in the 22B, I've always wanted to have a go in one, and although we got overtaken by everything, I still enjoyed myself! I just think you must have the willpower of a saint, because most of us would have seen red mist and gone for it, but you treated the car with kid gloves (so Mr Squires you have NOTHING to worry about!). Hope your car is soon up and running, and endowed with some reliable bhp!

Dear Ian,
Thanks also for taking me round in yours, I enjoyed getting the opportunity in being able to watch Stef get his car sideways from a different perspective! Obviously you need to get some big brakes as well, but the car still felt beautifully balanced....

Dear Chris (and Simon R),
Thanks for spending the time to chat with "the enemy", as it would have been boring otherwise 'cos I was there by myself (aaahh!). It just goes to show that fellow petrolheads share the same interests (i.e. going fast and talking about cars etc.!).

Dear Simon R,
Stop being a wallflower and contribute more!

Dear Firefox,
So Scoobies are reliable huh!? (Sorry couldn't resist, hope the turbo is fixed soon, as I hear it was one of the quickest cars out there before the turbo let go...)

Dear All,
With a few exceptions (i.e. those that Stef was unable to pass), the rest of you drove like girls! Come one what's wrong with you, most of the cars that Stef dispatched (Evo VIs and WRXs) have as good brakes AND more power!

To the two that came off, I nearly cried for you when I saw the cars, especially when I heard that one was caused when taking avoiding action to prevent T-boning a fellow member (I hope you feel guilty Mr Spinner!). I only hope that you were insured okay....

SANTA POD 21 NOVEMBER 1999
I'm back (and do ya luv me!):
12.763 @ 118.44mph
12.873 @ 118.39mph
12.931 @ 118.16mph
12.993 @ 118.19mph
13.025 @ 117.51mph
13.035 @ 117.59mph
13.059 @ 118.47mph
The most gratifying one was going against David's STi V whereby I beat him by almost 1.7s, which would have allowed him to see my time come up before he crossed the line! We had a great day and David Yu also took his car down and on his FIRST ever run got a 13.89s! Stef, be afraid, as these guys were posting 13.7s by the end of the day, and still couldn't get the launches right (2.2s compared to Stefs 1.7s for the first 60ft!), as THEY were suffering from too much wheelspin (so just imagine what it was like for me!). Wait 'til next year when the weather is more conducive to launches, I know my best time of 12.64s will be beaten if I can get that close on a cold slippery day.... Stef, the two David's are vying for your spot (should be high 12s low 13s if they can launch like you!).

Hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as I did at both events....
Best regards
Mike (Scooby Killer!!)

Mike.

Kind words indeed, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.
I cannot stress how amazing those brakes were, and it made it much easier to get the back out, which I obviously love to bits!!
WERE there any cars that I was unable to pass though? The only one that got passed me was the blue STi 5 dr on slicks, who I let pass down the back straight to see if I could then keep up with him, which, thanks to my brakes I did.
Sorry you didn't get a second ride out though.
I would have liked to come to the Pod yesterday, but had to spend a bit of time with the other half and all that, especially as she braved the cold and came to Donno.
I have no problem at all with any WRX or STi beating my 1/4 mile time, they ALL should and R19KET already has!!!
I don't think many people will get off the line as quick though .
Next on my wish list is anti-lift and anti-roll mods, then slicks.
Roll on the next track day.........

Mike, Mike, Mike,

PLEASE! You may be a great petrolhead, and have a very interesting car, but your maths have to come into question.

Yeah, with your extra 100bhp you beat me, but only by 0.73s, head-to-head. Not enough time for me to see the timing lights! Even with my crap reaction time, it was only 1.2s

See you next year, with my secret weapon, looking forward to getting under 13s

LOL

David (Rannoch - 'cos I love the Scottish moors)

PS Mike, just for reference the slower Dave is Dave U as that is what he uses on the bulletin board, I don't know what his real surname is. The faster David is David 'Rannoch' Taylor

Red face

Dear Rannoch,
Ooops, sorry, looking through the timing slips, I just realised I was looking at the wrong one, where I beat a different "T" reg car by 1.696s (and not yours), apologies for the mishtake!

Its not my maths honest!

See you next year and keep in touch about the mods, and as soon as mine have been completed and I know what effect they have, I will let you know!
Best regards

Are you gonna divulge just what mod's you're gonna make or are they still 'TOP SECRET'? Still reckon the best mod would be to buy a Scoob

Mike,

Being Dave Yu for the day on Sunday would have been entertaining as i would have had a 650bhp purple Skyline called Godzilla!! As it was i had to run my 'weedy' TypeR with no mods whatsoever except a blitz mid+back section (doesn't it sound good without the silencer?).
I'm practicing my starts....

Dear David,
When David (Rannoch), told me that you were coming, he just referred to you as David Yu, so in my posting I just spelt it how I heard it - sorry for the confusion, as I'm sure your car is more reliable than his. EVEN mine is!

Dear Weaver,
As you asked so nicely, the mods for next year will be along the lines of the following:

Tilt the block over 45° and mate another engine to a common crank to make a V8, bore out to 10 litres, junk the turbo and replace with supercharger, change the fuelling system over to enable it to run on a nitro-methanol mix, elongate the chasis by 3m, fit huge rear tyres and wheely bars, junk gear box and clutch for auto and torque converter, fit parachute, remove brain and let the thing rip. This should get my times down to 5s at just under 300mph......

Alternatively WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR.....!
Best regards

DYNT.

I actually find the 1/4 mile pretty drab, and as I have a standardish car I will never win any awards for times etc.
It's fun going off the line though, and of course you get to see all the Cossies blow up!!
