The bloke in question has a 411 BHP Saphire, but then its probably only got about 100 lbs ft of torque........

Why do these people feel the need to challange others to races at places like Santa Pod. I would like to go there, but more out of curiosity for my own cars performance rather than to race it against done up Cosworths driven by people.......no, I am not going to go down that road. Each to there own I guess.

I have an unbagded 5-dr with a PE phase 1 Scooby with SS backbox, janspeed centre section and twin dump front pipe. I'd be quite prepared to show them up in my humble 5dr.

And to add insult to injury, do it with a week's shopping and a couple of big dogs (preferably pit bulls...) in the back.

I used to own an xr2, rs turbo and then escort cossie. I can assure you that theres a few pissed people in the RS Club, who are having a big cry cos they realise their cars are just too slow. (i.e most of my mates)

However, I must say that I got more driving enjoyment out of the Cossie, anyway thats in the past, its sold and I cant be bothered buying one just to have to uprate it again.

I dont think anyone should slag off the club - I used to be a member and theres a lot of serious people who dont rise to the challenge of a slagging match (my 1st two paragraphs excluded!)

Theres some fine examples out there and not everyone resorts to a bodykit, etc - most Subaru owners cant comment - as the first thing they do is put on bigger alloys, kevin exhaust, etc

By the way, theres a lot of cars faster than the scooby - My escort cossie would blow away my standard sti5 in any gear, at any speed (though modded heavily, just like the fuel consumption and the size of the bank overdraft)

The reaon I sold it you may ask is that I wanted a newer car - simple as that

Cossie owner and a type R couldn't wait for Santa Pod and were both going for it at Slough last night.

The Cossie I believe is heavily modified, although the guy wouldn't tell me what he has had done.

It looked fairly even. I think the Type R owner is on here (P3 WRX) so perhaps he could comment.

In posting this I am not condoning racing on the public road, just merely commenting on what I saw.

I to posted on the RS BBS and got a message from one of the RS guys thanking me for my posting and was glad to hear from a fellow petrolhead. My posting just tried to clear the air. He invited me to come to santa pod. These guys love their cars as much as we do. Look what happens on here when some posts about the evo 6 being better than a scooby.

I guess a lot of scooby owners have had RS's in the past and still have a soft spot for them http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif.

I'd have been very surprised if a turbo'd car with that power didn't have huge torque.

I've been requested by the 'bloke in question' to tell you that his car actually has 419bhp and 401lb/ft @ 3500rpm.
Before his latest conversion it was 389bhp and at Bruntingthorpe he managed 172mph before running out of room. Over the same distance a Lotus Carlton managed 163mph and a Prodrive Impreza 141mph.
I guess it's safe to say his car's pretty quick!

I agree with Steve. Most are petrolheads like us - it's a v.small majority that posted all the crap.
Cossies were designed to blow everything away on circuits, Scoobs on rallies.
It's nigh on impossible to modify a Scoob as much as a Cossie.
But, if Steve goes for that 5k 360/360 upgrade, that should be a fair match for the 400+ Cossies.
Reliability will be interesting though.

I heard the car now has 500bhp+ and spins in fourth if you carent careful with the (obviously expensive) clutch!

The formula is

BHP = TORQUE * RPM/5252 (I think)

The 480bhp Impreza is a bloody quick car... its power comes in from midway to redline... it is torquey!! And handles/stops like you wouldnt believe.... Thanks to full HKS race suspension..and 360mm AP brakes..(18" wheels required). It is still a 2litre..but upgraded internals..and high boost!

Although the turbo is one the way out (knackered).. and I'm/was discussing options with the owner...for a replacement unit.

Alot of the old cossies where built for straight line performance....some were 2.2 or 2.4 units....and running 500bhp.... although not for long until the engine blew....

The impreza isnt a straight line car... remeber..theres always someone with a quicker car out there... *bugger them*

I'm waiting on Dave Morgans rolling road figures after having driven the 'beast'. I must say the Interpro conversion is the fasted car I've ever been in (no snide remarks here please) and the delivery was so smooth. Not sure about the Dumpvalve though - very loud!

I would say that the modest conversion is at least equal to 400hp on a cossie - probably more!

Anyway I've started to get miserable now talking about Cossie's - I miss my last car (starts crying....)

I also go to W Yorkshire often, few meets and low numbers.

Mike turned up in his '419bhp' Cossie, but to be honest I wasn't very impressed, considering the power. I think he had probs. It's a very nice example, but he only managed 13.4s or thereabouts. I managed 13.5s, so there wasn't much in it.
He did say he'd just fitted a paddle clutch though, he wasn't used to it and that's why he was slower! Unfortunately, his car died after a couple of runs. Don't know what the prob' was, but it looked like it may have been the clutch. I think a few of his comrades crashed and burned too! I actually think some of them have got too much power, they literally just can't get it onto the tarmac.

Mike seems like an OK guy, but this clutch thing sounds like another "excuse" to me. I would have thought a paddle type clutch better suited. I agree that power isn't everything.

Dear Diablo et al,
At last I can reply myself! What Stef neglected to tell you was that I was going through the lights at 115 mph, so although it may have seemed close (as in his time of 13.5 against mine of 13.4), he was only doing 0-99 mph in 13.5s and I was doing 0-115 in 13.4! Obviously as you can see by this, it was purely a traction problem off the line that I was suffering from!

However, I would not wish to take anything away from Stef, as not only was he the SOLE Scooby owner to be brave enough to take part (out of five or six cars that turned up), he also beat fair and square, quite a few supposed "faster" cars. You will all have to come along on the 31st to see us in action again (and maybe take part if you're not all talk!). Especially to witness the launch of Stefs car off the line - it is like watching a plane being launched from a steam catapult! And as for Francis' three-door Cossie which did an 11.86s run at 114mph, now that is something else altogether - Oh to have the advantages of 4wd!

Anyway, as you know my diff gave up after only a few runs (the problem with doubling your car's power and torque output - I'd like to see any car that can survive that unscathed!). But I will be back next time, where you WILL get to see the car do a 12s run - and that's a promise! (Providing nothing goes bang again.....)
