Mike, it was a serious question, is polished stainless an option?

Does stainless tarnish of its own accord, if not used in an exhaust system?

Mike.
Cyber abuse??? I'd rather not know what you get up to with your pc thanks very much!!
I think I, like post people, take people at face value. You've recognised that the way the cage was introduced initially was perhaps not the most tactful, but that's done and dusted now.
The cage is here which proves you were at least genuine.

Anyway, as Mike has said he has very kindly offered to let me fit the cage after Croft so that I can use it at The Ring at the end of the month. Not only will it give me a chance to see whether it has a positive effect on the car in terms of handling (extra weight in the back, stiffening rear struts, etc) but it will also expose the cage to what will undoubtedly be a very large Impreza contingent over there. I am not too keen to find out how well it actually performs the task for which it was designed though!
Regarding camera mounting, I'm looking forward to seeing what type of angles can be achieved. I've had many people say that it would be good to have the camera looking at different angles (including on me a bit more ) but this is very difficult with just a tripod.
Anyway, it'd better be good cos I want to get soem more great footage for the next video!

Stef.

Hi Adam,

Mike has had a rough estimate for Chroming from Safety Devices and they said around £120. Apparently they did say it may be prone to chipping if chromed.

I am sure Mike will reply later in full when he is online.
Cheers,

Mossman

can i also ask people to refrain from use of the word "cyber" it makes me cringe.

Mike,

Is it going to be okay for a 22B or any type r for that matter, I forgot to ask specifically whilst talking on phone to you.

Ps. what kind of blue and red are we talking, matt glass, painted, coated?

If chrome would chip off, it would be silly, I would rather stick to proper colours.

Adam M, In Mike's absense I can confirm that chroming is a possibility and the extra price suggested by Mossman. Mike was thinking of having it done to his just to show it off a bit but it would certainly chip with use.

How about getting it unpainted, then polished and laquered? Colours are Black, post box red and Ford blue. Not very shiny, but again a coat of laquer should give it some sparkle.

Richard.

Mike,

Any chance they can be delivered bare with a couple of SD stickers ? That way all the colour coding bods can get the Subaru paints and paint the cage to match the car ?

However, anybody who has driven a car with a cage in it will know that you don't really want anything too bright in there, especially on any cross braces you can see in the rear view mirror because it tends to distract. Not that a high level STi wing doesn't....

Cheers

Ian

Just a question for Mike.

The RB5 has a solid rear bulkhead and the rear seat does move, will it fit?

I have already asked Mike about that, and apparently you can't see any of it in the rear view mirror. I was concerned it would block out the mirrorcam you see.

Andy W, I'm almost certain your RB5's solid rear bulkhead will give no problems. It's basically a UK99 four-door body shell, yes? No probs then - same car as Mike's.

I was also concerned about this area as I have two stereo amps mounted on a board directly behind the rear seats. The roll cage fixtures don't go anywhere near it

Dave

Easy - especially as the rollcage is removable & the fixings unobtrusive & covert in nature Then its just a pile of metal in the garage

Besides - as mentioned in a previous post, this item is a Safety Feature & one which the wife might actually approve of

Mike

Nice one M8 - looks a cracker

Thank you to all who shown support for the RTRS Removable Trackday Roll Systems.

May I please ask that all who are provisionally interested in ordering one to please submit details to me at

sales@performancedrivers.co.uk

so that I can place the initial order for the appropriate types of cage.

Please include

Details of how you may be contacted
Car, model and year

Single diagonal/single harness mounting cage @ £399

OR

I don't want to seem petty, but doesn't it cost as much as a full roll cage for the scooby? I'm sure I've seen full ones for less than £400 or are we paying for the fact it's removable and will not have to pay any more for our insurance. That said I still think it's very good and do want one but couldn't it be a little cheaper?

Moan over now

We have been here before but to clarify, people must realise a number of things.

1. The cage is a low volume product and as 'Hoppy' will confirm, SD have already asked for £160 more than the original quote per cage. That is impossible and I am dealing with it at the moment. If we can't compromise, I will have it built elsewhere. At the moment, I'm afraid the price is firmly fixed.

2. You are right in that a full cage is around the £600 mark. That appears to make the RTRS system expensive until you learn that for that money, all you get is a box of bent tubing and you have to weld it together, perminently in your car and paint it etc. The RTRS system has the additional production costs of building an assembly jig, manual assembly of each unit for welding, strip down after production, powder coating, supply of bolt kit and packaging for delivery. Existing bolt in jobs still require additional welding of reinforcement plates and captive nuts to the car thus destroying its resale value. So all in all, thats the basic reason for the cost differential.

3. The system design acknowledged the problems of cage installation in road going vehicles and was produced to provide additional protection at reasonable cost. That said, the priority was not to drill or damage the vehicle thus maintaining resale values and to make it quickly and easily removable re insurance issues.

4. The provision of correct harness mounts is a big plus and should not be overlooked. Existing users of full harness belts really should be careful about installation angles etc. Wrongly fitted, harnesses do more harm than good.

5. Re Adam M's inquiry, I will see if they can do a mega flash version in stainless once I have sorted the basic issues out. I don't want to push my luck at this stage !

6. Other inquiries. Yes it will fit an RB5, two door and five door versions.

I will consider them for B4s if you can get an order for a minimum of ten.

Although it is already fitted with something, I do intend to make them for MY2001 models because they offer additional benefits such as improved roll protection, harness mounts, rear strut bracing not to mention the 'pose' value identified by Hoppy and Adam M!

I do hope that this deals with some of your inquiries and I am happy to answer others when I have time enough to do it. Please feel free to call me on the phone, details on

Mike, with the absence of "5 door" in your earlier post, can you confirm it can be fitted in a 5dr. Thanks.

Thumbs up

Hi all,

Very interesting development! I'm sure now this news is out in Holland you will find a lot of customers here too.

One technical question: how does it perform against a full rollcage which also includes struts along the A-pillars?

Thanks for your interest folks. I will post some replies on Tuesday as I am mega busy for the next couple of days. For info, I have even got orders from Abudabi ! Sounds promising....

If you can all post your individual queries, I will try to answer them in one post to keep the thread in some kind of order.

Thanks again

Mike@PD

Don't forget it will be at Croft for viewing before being transfered to Stefs EuroScoob for the NBR trip.

i am intersed in the mounting points... do you use the seatbelt anchors or drill new holes

in the states mounting plates are suppose to have to have 3 bolts each for SCCA racing
