Pete,

Bet there not a PITA if your selling one to a customer..!!!If someone enquires about spending £120 on a turbo timer do you tell them not to bother there a waste of money..???

What about all the other features of a turbo timer are they not worth it...?

Dan

I tell them EXACTLY that, every time.

I would rather that they bought something useful/enjoyable.

As i said before...

I get a bit of enjoyment out of the 1/4 mile time facility, 0-100km, 0-200km 0-300km terminal speed.. e.t.c its not just about the timer....

So knowone has ever bought a turbo timer from scoobysport..??

"If i drive round town at about 30-40mph for say 30mins, with no boost for the last 10mins and stop straight away the car will need 30 secs to 1min cool down.... still not 10 secs like someone mentioned..!!"

Dan

If you had bought an exhaust gas temp gauge instead, you would have noticed that after a drive like that, the turbo temp is exactly the same as at idle in fact idling may even cause the temp to rise due to the lack of cooling air flowing by the car

As said before, its not only about conserving your turbo, its about the brakes aswell, so a little bit of common sense & steady driving before home then fit the steering lock & im ready to shut off!

Spend the £120 on NF & enjoy it more while your driving hard instead of sitting on your drive!

Im only going off what my HKS timer says.. which is made by the most educated peeps in japan and im not going to argue with them... im sure they have discovered all possibilities before releasing a product...!!

Im sure 30 secs is not going to make that much difference not to my turbo bearings anyway....

To be honest i was not really too bothered about the timer but the other stuff that comes with it made me buy it.... i.e i didnt want a turbo timer that just has set manual times you put in to leave the engine running, i couldnt see the point in these... thats why i bought a automatic one... with all the other stuff too..!

Making the spacers is a PITA I may be able to get you a bit material though, you can drill, file, dremmel them yourself !

I have 2 others to send some to, if there is enough for a 3rd then it's yours I'll find out next Monday.

Dan - How does it work out the times ? is it based on an accelerometer ? I've got an AP22 unit and it keeps me amused for ages not difficult that mind

You have it all wrong! PITA is a type of bread they use to wrap around the souvlaki you buy! Also used on Yeeros and Kebabs!

AndyF,

It take signals from the speed sensor at the ecu, the rpm signal at the ecu and also engine running time.... using this info it calculates how long to leave it running... dont know the exact maths..

I fitted mine from an experiance of a mate who has an escort cosworth, he used to leave it for 30 secs no matter what, he had the car from about 25,000 miles and at 39,000 miles he needed a new turbo from worn turbo bearings....!

He used to say to me 30 secs if fine and i told him about how my timer is automatic and sometimes after a motorway run it take 2-3mins to cool down....

I dont know how different cossy turbos are but 39,000 miles seems a little low...

Thumbs up

Thanks for all your replys,

This is the first time that I've been on the BBS for a couple of weeks. It's nice to know that people aren't sitting on the fence and are giving some honest opinions,

Cheers,

Default timer / no timer

ive to have just installed a old v0.00001 hks time on my scoob
its is crap best with a type 1, you have to replace the candles in mine ??

but anyway it works . i just pull up turn it off n no more pulling out the stop watch to count down the seconds.
yes you can go without one but theres time you will forget to let it idle
(i.e late for work)
know if you do that for a few times a years oooooopps its buggered , new turbo needed (mind you good reason to get a v34)

and theres the issue about voiding you cat 1 alarm , so legally you have to stay in your car , but i have not got the bottle to just leave my car running HAVE YOU.

so i have and would get a timer but a upto date time not a cheap jobby of ebay.

Why don't they fit boost gauges, oil temp, oil pressure gauges as these are more important than the timer.
Simply put it's the cost of these items and Subaru do recommend that you leave the engine to idle for 1 min, turbo timers do have extra functions on them possibly to make them more worthwhile to buy.

Anyone who still thinks TT's are a sound investment should go back and read this whole thread - paying particular attention to Andy F's posts

I normally leave my Impreza ( 2003) for around 15-20 seconds to cool down then shut off. TD05 16G , but i do take it easy off boost for the last mile as well..

i take it going by the post this is the right thing to do!?

Look, all you need do is some off boost driving with no heavy braking for a bit then pull up, tick over a few seconds, then turn off.
It aint a magic or black art or whatever!
Jees, this forum sometimes makes you think the Subaru is some mystical beast that will shatter if you dont do something to it, listening to you lot.
