Sadly can't get EGT on my PSI3.
The tick sound can be hot soot flying round inside the cat also, could be worth taking it off the car and having a look at it as much of a pain that is, that’s a shame might be worth doing a rolling road run there great for fault finding and cheap compared to booking it in to be looked at.

To put this into perspective, I'm doing around 13-14 mpg.
Mixed driving cycle, about 180 miles to a tank.

60 litre tank is 13.2 gallons.
180 miles to a tank is 13.6 to the gallon. Great. Not.

just found this on a similar post of using too much fuel , I don’t know if it’s of any help ?

Resolution

Just to give a final update on this issue, it was a bad evap purge valve solenoid behaving erratically.

Replaced that and the issue never occurred again.

I've not heard of this valve.....where is it? Is it somewhere on the charcoal cannister under the rear bumper?

The symptoms on the post and your post sound similar , it may not be your issue , worth a used unit , or even a clean and see if it has an impact , a clean may not be a long term solution but maybe the right direction 👍
