4 The West criticises Russia but ultimately lets Putin get away with it. The Ukraine pretty much gives up on Crimea but makes a half hearted attempt to reclaim the Donbass regions although ultimately a stalemate over many years with significant civilian and military casualties on both sides.
6. Putin gets peed off with Ukraine trying to regain the territories that Putin forced to become "independent" even though they had no prior desire to be independent and starts massing troops on the border and also in Belarus.
7. Ukraine, in fear of pending Russian onslaught, abandons it neutral stance and seeks assistance from NATO.
8. Britain sends Ukraine some anti tank weapons and Germany sends some Helmets whilst simultaneously pretty much all Western leaders meet our call Putin on an near hourly basis to try to de-escalate the situation and avoid war, receiving guarantees from Putin that he has no intention to invade and the troops on the border are just taking part in exercises.
9. Putin invades Ukraine anyway, targeting civilians from the outset, assuming Ukraine would crumble in days and three West would turn a blind eye as usual.
10. Ukraine fights back much more effectively than expected because they had been expecting and training for this since 2014 and the West while staying out of the war directly, provide significant military support Ukraine and wide reaching sanctions against Russia.

Thats it! The entire conflict going back to 2014 is all about Putin loosing his Puppet in the Euromaiden revolution. The West never had an interest in Ukraine or fighting Russia.
