Spec C with an identity crisis

Just to add on to what Adam is saying there, you won't find a pad and disk combination thats brilliant at all track and road driving. There always will be a compromise somewhere. Brake dust, noise fade etc. I ran competition pads and disks, terrible for road driving. For me the best on road driving were actually stock brembos at the power level I was running. Hardly any brake dust, no noise and warmed up right away.
But and this is the thing past a certain point it comes to driving style. A brake set up I like might not work for you. Theres a reason a lot of people swap their set up when they hit the track to drive hard. It might take you a while to find whats right.

Nossy is on the money, it’s definitely down to driving style. 99% of the time I drive like a nana but for that other 1% I want something that’s tried and tested. You’ll get better initial bite from a OEM style setup but it will also fade much quicker. The Subaru 4 pots that came on this car would start fading after 2 quick heavy decelerations so wouldn’t be suitable for Sunday morning spirited driving.

no comparison between the likes of DBA cast discs and something else with little or no branding......
we find the DBA material, castings used and machining to be 100% and are our brand of choice if you want something other than an OE spec disc - pad wise then the likes of Brembo OE pads are fine if you never drive it repeatedly hard but their HP Sport upgrade is far superior whilst retaining most road manners but not as capable as the likes of PC Z-rated in terms of temp ability.......
if you want track capable stuff then the higher PFC ranges or more commonly Pagid race stuff is THE ultimate

With the car up & running now, it was time for an oil change. Went with the Millers this time after reading several good reviews. The car is now ready for a track day I have booked next month barring any mechanical failures.

Glad you sorted the oil issue out. He's not a bad bloke that Alyn!
If you want to do track days (and I would in your Foz ) then it's probably easiest to route back in to the down pipe. Shouldn't be that big a task for a man of your ability.
If that's too much of a ball ache, I think I heard about someone who used a motor bike silencer on the dump pipe for track days, no idea how they made that work though.
A couple of the guys are travelling a fair distance so are staying in a hotel the night before. I managed to get a reasonable group discount and free garage thrown in too.

So after slaving away on this car for nearly a year now, it will likely be for sale shortly before even seeing a single track day!
I have been given an opportunity to purchase another very special Impreza and I don't have space for 3 of them.
It will be keenly priced between a WRX and STi so would offer great value for someone looking to restore it to OEM spec as Spec C's are now going for over 20K! If not, it is a great car as it is, totally rust free and with many brand new parts.
I will create a full spec sheet and list it in the for sale section in the next week or so. There's still a couple of bits I'd like to finish up before it sells though.
If anyone on here is interested, drop me a PM and I can give more details.

I didn't spot that you maybe selling it, i'd take the positives, you've done a great job on the car and i'm sure someone will enjoy the work you've done so it won't be wasted plus you potentially you get a car to replace it that you want.

First you take the black one for more sensors & mapping before sale & now you’re going to finish this one.
Keep up the good work, putting fresh motors back on the street

Thanks for the kind words guys.
it’s been fun and frustrating in equal measure. I was really looking forward to getting this out on the track but an opportunity came along and I have to take it.
I’ll hopefully still be able to make the track day next month but it will probably be in the new one if this one sells and we can do the deal in time.
I have to get the little bits finished on this as I hate selling a car hen it’s not perfect! I know it’s silly and I should just leave stuff for the new owner but it’s not in my nature.
Looking around at the market, I’ll be pricing this at £13k so it offers reasonable value either as it is or as a restoration.
I never use the project section as I never intend for them to be projects!

Several enquires but no firm offers yet mate. Everyone I've spoken to wants to put it back to standard which is a good idea given the value, Torque and Hurst both have spec c's at the moment for £25k!
I'm in 2 minds to keep it and source the engine and gearbox myself now, once spring arrives the values will be on the up again! I think Naiem has a couple of spec c engines still. I might drop Stuart a text and see what bits he has lying around the workshop too...

Surprised it hasn't sold already. 1 slight critique though mate, use the second picture as your first. Its far more 'eye catching' if that makes sense or better still similar angle but with the flap open.

It's not everyone's cup of tea @Dave Y, that's fair to say. the shell really is incredibly clean though!
It would make a very good track car as it is. The 5 speed is much lighter than the 6 speed and with the quick rack and sticky tires, the handling is pin sharp. It would also be much cheaper to fix than an STi engine and drivetrain if anything does go wrong.
I wish I had the time to get out in it but I need to be realistic and with another baby on the way and more construction work at the house, this will just end up as an onement for another year.
You can't keep them all.
