STi - Splutter on start up ***All is revealed...and it's not pretty***
I hadn't thought about that, I assumed it was on all 4 cylinders. Yep, looks like pistons 1 and 4 have this from what I can see online.
Clearly the crack formed at the weakest point, logical but so unfortunate for this to happen.
I'm going to see the block myself at some point, does anyone fancy a large aluminium paperweight by any chance?

About 4-500 I think for him to convert a block to closed deck.
Mine was all done as part of my build so I didn’t actually pay for the job separately.
Give Alyn a call, very helpful and easy to deal with.

Sorry to hear your bad news.
I was worried when you listed your engine spec and the block had cracked as my spec and usage is the same. Then I realised you've not gone the cdb route as I did. well worth the cost for the peace of mind IMO.
Good luck with the rebuild. If you go cdb the block needs a rebore to true it up so your existing pistons can be reused. That should go a long way towards the cdb cost and result in a better spec.
