wow , that’s farcical , golden after 4K , !!! I beg to differ , just done a oil change on a bike with a 300 mile interval & that wasn’t golden , not even the same initial ha ha

Look mate not looking for arguments as oil is a subject that could be debated till the end of time but seems as Exxon Mobil is possibly the largest oil maker on the planet with a huge motor sport history behind it I wouldn’t hesitate to use it in virtual anything.What bike do you have with a 300 service interval? Is it speedway or something like that? Bet that could get expensive?

Ok probably not golden ha ha ,but I was definitely surprised how clean it looked compared to other oil changes I've done.

Spec D - let me gues between 50k and 70k miles...hate to say it, but this one's got the infamous HG failure all over it.

What oil are you using Z? I don’t know why they don’t colour oils to make them easier to check levels especially gear oil can be difficult to see. I thought about putting automotive dye in mine.

millers cfs 10/50 was golden but last year it came red

Ran a r33 gtr at 1100hp on 0w/50 mobile 1 the engines in another car now and still going strong.

Sorry, but I went through months of convincing myself it wasn't the dreaded HG but when I faced up and got it sorted I finally enjoyed the car (mine finally went at 66k). Hopefully yours has a different prognosis? Incidentally, the 2.5's can 'drink' oil and a litre per 1,000 miles isn't unheard of (although unusual). Others don't need topping up between changes. For what it is worth, I also use Millers CFS 10-50 and change every 3k (as recommended by Slowboy Racing who fixed the car).

I’d imagine that was pretty bonkers to drive.
Do you have any pics? I have a Triumph Sprint RS sports tourer that’s 120 bhp & pretty quick but never experienced that sort of acceleration in a car.Sorry for going off topic op

I thought I should offer a reply to the original question. I personally think 30 weight is to thin for this type of engine although I think Subaru recommends that? My classic sti had 60k miles when I got it & I ran 5w40 for years.It now has about 80k miles & I recently changed to 10w50.One thing I noticed immediately was that the engine warms up a lot quicker with the thicker grade in.I have no idea why,Does anyone else have any idea why? As for brand I usually use Gulf comp as it’s very good value for an Ester oil although I have used Millers cfs nano + as I dropped on some at a good price (although £50 for 5 litres ain’t exactly cheap)
I’d be happy to use 5w40/50 in an 06 sti.

Well might has well throw my 2 penneth in, I've had sti's, spec c's etc since 03 and now own a type 20 hatch and I only do track days and Nurburgring ring trips several times a year and I've Never had an engine failure issue whatever and I only have ever used millers 10/60 the competition one not nano drive etc etc
i believe in listening to someone who's done it, perhaps made mistakes and learnt from them which i did and I've never had an issue, people pay loads of money on crap on their cars and buy crap oil, the oil is the life blood in your engine Cheers Rob
