Maybe all their experiment equipment was faulty?

Maybe, you should email them and tell them all their experiments mean nothing, as when you were little, you were told it was round. Santa Claus and the tooth fairy was real, and they should take their results to God and shown him. As when you were little, you were told God created everything.

With an open mind, these experiments make you think.

With a closed mind, you just keep believing everything you are told, and continue eating your Curlywurly

Just to be clear (Yet again) I am not saying categorically, the earth is flat. All I have said all along is that watching experiments like these, it makes you think. But, I'm sure you'll reply saying I'm a flat earth fanatic
Dear God, it's almost as almost of of physics was thrown out to support that video.

When it got to the bit where they denied gravity, I gave up watching. Losing refraction at the start was bad enough....

Was it a serious video or a **** take? I did wonder when at the beginning they set up their experiment at the Straits of Gibraltar - in France........

A video that shows the Earth as flat, convex and concave all in one clip!

It should be entitled "lens distortion effects" and nothing less.

Edited to add: a bit of refraction too...........

Haha, I love the way the flat earthers use gravitational refraction of light to explain why the earth looks spherical from outer space, yet completely ignore this phenomenon when shining laser beams across large bodies of water to prove the earth is flat!

As for there being land beyond the south pole, absolutely there is! After you pass the south pole, you start heading North again and there is a significant chance that you'll encounter some land as you head North! Amazingly enough, the same is true for the North pole!

So can you show me an experiment where a Laser bends with the curvature of the earth?
I've been to 60,000ft I've seen it. Tell them to get a better laser that goes further.

Show me how a lazer light can bend around the curvature of the earth?

And just for the hard of reading (and there seams to be a lot on here) I have not said the earth is flat. I have mealy said that some of the links they show, make you think.

Just like getting a beam of light to go from point A to point B, that shouldn't be possible on a curved earth. That makes you think, how is that possible, when the curved earth should not allow it to happen.

So, instead of just laughing at their theory, prove otherwise how a beam of light can ben around a curved earth? You are criticising and laughing at their theories, and their experiments, with no other evidence to back up the contrary.

I'll await your thesis on how light can bend

Who said the laser bends, it's much simpler to point the laser down a bit and claim a flat earth.

This should help, go to 5m 17s

Light does bend, or rather is refracted, by the atmosphere. A laser is light, ergo, it bends. This is accepted, repeatable science.

That's that one sorted, wanna try and explain how they dismiss gravity?

The main problem for flat Earthers (apart from it being utter bollocks) is that everything would work differently on a flat Earth, from gravity, to how we see, shadows, views of the stars, the list goes on and on.

Also, go and look for lunar eclipse and flat Earth, it's a bit of a killer.

Would you like to move on ot 9/11 now? That's a real doozy.......

My theory on Flat Earth’ers is this...

They are doing it to earn money!

Someone can make a career out making videos on YouTube these days as we know. Some of these ‘nutters’ get millions of views and will earn money off the videos. There will also no doubt be some society you can pay to join. Are they really that crazy!

if the earth were flat we would all have daytime & night time at the same time.
Presuming they still have the Sun at the center of the solar system & the earth rotating.

There's some quite amusing videos where they try to explain that one. To sum up, it's like a big torch that shines a beam on only certain parts of the Earth as it circles....

I think Stilover has just proved the point I made in the 2nd post on this thread

"it works because every bit on nonsense has an element of truth in it - just enough to ensnare (uncritical thinkers) people

even flat earth"

There is always just enough "truth" to ensnare the gullible in whatever bull**** you want to push - even a flat earth (what chance did Brexit have!!!)

Remember, keep an open mind, but not so open your brains fall out

Throughout history, mankind has believed certain things. If throughout history, everyone had a closed mind, we wouldn't be where we are today.

History has shown that mankind did think the earth was flat. If we all had a closed mind, we would all still think that, as we wouldn't have developed technology to prove or disprove otherwise.

The same can be said for everything to be fair. Phones, cars, planes, computers. Man has questioned things, and developed technologies to prove or dispute.

Having a closed mind is so negative, and shows arrogance TBH. While I've looked at some of the flat earth evidence and theories, I have not said or believe the earth is flat. But when an experiment produces results that shouldn't be possible, then it makes you think. If we all laughed at what others thought, and believed everything we were told, mankind would be in a far worse place.

After all, most of the planet believes in some kind of God, just because they were told there is one from birth. I've still to see a single shred of evidence to prove there is one. But that doesn't stop Billions of people having blind faith in it.

Yet a handful of people believe the earth is flat, and are laughed at by those same Billions of people.

man has known the earth was round for 2 thousand years, indeed, the only idiots who thought it was flat where people with closed minds

The first scientific estimation of the radius of the earth was given by Eratosthenes about 240 BC, with estimates of the accuracy of Eratosthenes’s measurement ranging from 2% to 15%.

All part of a multi-millennia conspiracy.

Only those with open-minds can see through this.

Flat-Earthism pretty much died out until the Internet came along, then any clown could YouTube something, and the 'open-minded' would click and share.

You know, if these lot crowd funded a spaceship, they could send one up to take a look for themselves. Hell, if I could get a trip into space to see for myself I'd say the earth was flat

Oh no, wait...is it the gravitation pull bending the light into a sphere?

A straight line is a curve with infinite radius!

If the Earth were to be flat, then on an infinite scale it would still be round!

I think you're confusing being closed minded with being able to dismiss something because it's wrong without having to 'prove it'.

Most of the claims are utter nonsense, and the ones that are left are easily explainable.

The flat earthers conveniently dismiss all sorts of physical rules, and that is being truly closed minded.

It is the bread and butter of conspiracy, they want to believe, and nothing will deter them.

One of them once said that nothing could convince them that man had been to the moon. Now that is close minded!

yes contrary to myth "flat earthism" is a relatively recent phenomenon - inevitably given a boost by the Internet (a medium which allows village idiots to realise they are not alone)

THE MODERN PUBLIC REVIVAL of the flat-earth idea was the brainchild of a travelling lecturer and quack doctor known by the pseudonym ‘Parallax’. Born in Stockport in 1816 and christened Samuel Birley Rowbotham, by the late 1830s he was managing a radical socialist commune, allied to Welsh cotton manufacturer and social reformer Robert Owen (1771– 1858), set deep in the Cambridgeshire fens. Here, in a vast, flat landscape criss-crossed by a network of watercourses and dykes, Parallax undertook various experiments to discover the shape of the earth centred on one simple question: what was the shape of the surface of water? Parallax deduced that if the earth was truly a globe, water must have a degree of convexity and this was the point he investigated with a series of experiments on a six-mile stretch of the Old Bedford Canal. During the winter when the canal was frozen, he had apparently lain flat on the ice with a good telescope and spotted skaters at Welney, six miles away, while in the summer he claimed to have seen village folk running in and out of the water, and even those who were swimming. He also made observations on boats sailing along the canal with similar results, or so he said, leading to a conclusion that the canal and the earth were flat.

Mind blown!
but in actual act the Law of Conservation of Angular Momentum - ensures that things are in fact flat

that's why the Solar System is essentially flat and indeed so is our galaxy (and every galaxy in the universe)

remember - "everything happens for a reason, and that reason is usually physics"

Oh but it's not gravity, it's density and buoyancy! Still waiting for them to explain why it moves down when the air above is less dense, but I'm sure some crackpot excuse will be along shortly

Uhm... If the air above is less dense, then it will provide less buoyancy than at lower altitudes and would therefore fall faster. That's why hot air balloons have a maximum altitude, because the mass of the air which is displaced by the balloon is no longer greater than that of the balloon itself.

Still doesn't explain why everything's being pulled downward in the first place though!

Looks like we've got a winner for this year's Darwin awards, and its only February
