Electric cars
Another free fill up yesterday, had the electric heater blasting, dishes washed, clothes washed and tumble dried too, terrible this electricity stuff. If you're not getting free electricity then sign up here we both get £50 and if you have a smart meter you could save a fortune too https://share.octopus.energy/dusky-bee-317
"Benn Barr, the commission’s chief executive, said it was expected an average solar household with a system of between 4 and 6 kilowatts would still save about $900 a year on power bills after the change, about $70 less than currently."

Is there really any actual pride in owning an electric car ?
essentially you are controlled by the 'vehicle' right ? , if it breaks down theres nothing yo can do
you are merely part of the algorithm

What’s the difference from any modern car? I think a battery and motor swap would be far simpler than engine and fuel system. Not that I’d do either. If I want something to tinker with I’ll buy something old.
Sure thing buddy see you in one or two decades. If your oil burner packs up before then please do the same.
It would be interesting to know how many of those EV registrations were actually 'sold' cars and how many were 'pre-registered' by dealers.
Interestingly in 2024, only 1 in 7 new EV's was registered to a private customer, the other 6 were registered to 'fleet' and 'business'
What would also be interesting to see is how many of the fleet and business sales would disappear if the BIK taxation advantages reduced !

I work for a JLR retailer, it's amazing how few of our customers have any interest in EV's and even PHEV's
We are a long way North of London, our new car sales are still mainly diesel.
It's last year but JLR seem to think sales are OK https://media.jaguarlandrover.com/ne...lectrification
If the benefit wasn't there then I suspect that the people that took advantage of the scheme just wouldn't use it.

The newer generation RR PHEV models make a bit of sense, 3.0 petrol straight 6, plus battery assistance and approximately 70 miles electric range.
We do well with those, but only to companies.
BIK at 8% I think, compared to 37% for the diesel version.
40% tax payer could be saving upwards of £600 pm in company car tax, that goes a fair way towards paying for the leasing cost of the vehicle.
