Hello Chaps!
Thought I'd drop by and say hello after my year long sin bin I missed you guys, even the muppets.
So, this car. A friend went to see this for me as its far up North in a place I would rather not ever visit. Y'all know I won't buy or drive anything that isn't a JDM STI , so this was of interest, but with major alarm bells being the dealer it is, was toying with the idea of buying another Subaru, and this little *gem* popped up, so grabbed my interest like a fat chick and a jar of opened malteasers.
Before I get into it - Reading one or two of the above posts - those of you who havent been around the Subaru scene for a long time will defend your limited knowledge about dealers (always a relatively noobie to the forum make the ranting arguments) and what dealers are classed as a good or bad one, those of us that have know exactly what to expect from dealers that are historically bad eggs, I know whose knowledge I would rather go with...
Anyways..
So the car, my friend, an aircraft engineer, not a mechanic persay but very knowledgeable about cars and especially Subaru's went to view it for me, with the idea that if it looks clean I would get a full RAC inspection with the intent of purchase. The poor ******* (my friend) lives in the North, so has to endure the North and all of what it entails, incuding Keighley Cars, or whatever they call themselves these days.
From what he could gather the car HAS been in a crash and is a definite repair and turd polish. To the extent of the damage and repair, he couldnt say, the paint was the clear immediately giveaway, and he just 'knew' the car wasn't right. Anyone who knows cars and knows Subarus can tell when something isn't right. Its a sixth sense we have, you just get the feeling once you are in it or looking at it.
He reckons it has been repaired at a fair standard, but no where near what a 20k car demands, its the type of repair you would expect on a Golf GTI circa 2010 to make it clean enough to drive on the road. I dont know if its the same car as mentioned on the Japenese auction sheet, as we didnt need to look further into it. He told me to walk away, actually I quote 'run away as quick as you can, some poor mug is going to buy that and die in a week when the wheel comes off'.
I wish I could tell more, but my pal didn't get involved. His exact words where 'even if it was a decent motor,I couldn't give 20grand to those Gypo's'.
Raf1 you are close by aint ya?, why not go and have a nose, take some photos

**** me, you could have explained that entire story in 2 lines.
Just let the OP go and buy it. He’s been warned by just about everyone that it’s a lemon, but you can’t tell some people. Let him learn the hard way, then we can all laugh at him when he realises it’s worth a couple of grand in parts.
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

I'm going to be very careful to not stray into choppy waters here so I'll keep it brief and factual.
Regarding traders and the keighley area =alarm bells ringing, no it doesn't . I know a lot of motortraders over this way, like any area and the motortrade it has good and bad. Probably the only person I would want to buy a Subaru from is close to this are.
Operating out of a "old car park" the motor hub site, is owned by them and in my opinion actually works really well for the format of a used car site
I drove that car very briefly and to be completely honest had no idea of its history weather it be good or bad. It was a nice car and I liked it. I have no idea of the state of repairs etc as I didn't inspect it.
I've known quite a few people buy cars from there. Would I buy one, yes I would! As raf mentioned that RA looks a good car. Just my opinion.
There's a few other bits that have been mentioned but I'm not going to get into that. My best advice for anyone interested would be checked the car out and cast your own aspersions, don't always be drawn into the forum witch hunt.
Everything I've said isn't aimed at anyone at all, just my 2p

Because that car was damaged in Japan I have a sneaking suspicion that the normal rules for fixing tat like that don't apply. If anybody wants a proper JDM car, as in pukka, as in nothing like the shocking story above, then they should just call a reputable company like Torque GT and get the car they really wanted.

Like ive already said if the car was a good un, For 20k new shape JDM with 3k miles on the clock would have been snapped up when it first went up for sale, that car has been for sale for at least 2 years now and no one has bought it, which either means that its a complete dog, or its priced to high??
Without even seeing the car I know which one it is!!
