The finish line is in sight

Progress made over the last few days:

- Engine bay final fit up completed.
- Fuel Lines cleaned, refitted and pressure tested.
- Coolant filled.
- Oil primed.

I've finally made it to the last hurdle before i can attempt a first start up; checking the loom adaptor, connect the additional sensors, tidy the wiring and tweak the IO on the base map which i plan to do later today/tomorrow.

Nice build, eerily similar to mine XD.

Apart from the color and drysump, its basically the same car!

I spent the whole evening checking the pin outs for the loom adaptor, updating the wiring schematic and adjusting the IO on the base map to suit.

Happy with this final version now.

On to connecting all of the additional wires to the ecu tomorrow, and that should be it ready for start up and mapping.

Managed to get everything wired in (except the knock sensor which arrived earlier today), base map loaded onto the Syvecs, not syncing at the moment. I did crank it for 10 seconds but it didn’t pick anything up on the traces for the crank and cam sensors.

Is anyone running 2.0 JDM heads with a Syvecs able to share their Cam and Crank Sensor config? I didn’t get a chance to spend much time on it today, will have a closer look tomorrow.

Update: It’s up and running now, started it up the other day, ran it briefly as there wasn’t any coolant flow, can’t seem to bleed it fully.

I’ve changed the coolant three times since, vacuum bled it a couple of times, bled it the conventional way once, seems better but still not 100%

The next step is to revisit the cooling as some of it isn’t ideal, notably the lack of header tank and the turbo routing which I went for the easiest option to start with, in hindsight I should have followed the OEM setup.

Once a few fittings I’ve ordered turn up I’ll be reinstating the header tank and following the OEM routing for the turbo coolant feed and return.

Current setup:

What I intend to do next week:

Other than the above, I have compression tested the engine, all cylinders came up within 1psi of each other. I have changed the thermostat and I intend to do a leak down test and pressure test of the cooling system tomorrow to rule out any other problem areas.

As long as I can get the above sorted next week, it should be ready for mapping the week after.

Harry

I had an issue when i modified my cooling system with a motor sport heater and a v mounted rad. It would radomly air lock.

To to solve it I made two swirl header tanks one for the engine and on for the heater loop.

Since fitting them them it's been perfect, better than standard. To fill now I put water in and start fully self bleeding.

Very nice setup. I may follow suit and add a heater header tank as well, sounds sensible given the height of the heater core pipework in relation to the top of my rad.

In short I’ll probably end up using it as much as possible, daily, track days, weekend blasts etc.

I want to enter the last two rounds of Time Attack RWYB this year if it runs well... I‘d also like to retain full interior for the Tesco runs with the family as well but I’ll probably have a cage fitted next year and go for fibreglass doors etc... let’s see how it pans out.

The cooling tweaks have done the trick; no more air locks and steady temps held.

I took it for a gentle short drive earlier and all seems well.

A few small bits to tidy up whilst i wait for a mapping slot now; front bumper and grill fitment, refit interior, bleed brakes, change rear discs and pads, , change the steering rack, suspension setup, give it a good clean etc...

A few pics of how it currently sits:

Oh, My, and might I add, God!

What is the benefit of the turbo being mounted where it is?

In theory the shorter exhaust manifold pipework should aid spool up and provide a wider power band.

Wider powerband you say? Can you get more technical on that?

Ahh, thanks!

Will be interesting to see what kind of power and spool this thing will make.

Amazing work you've put in to this car.
