Having followed heavyweight boxing since I first listened to Ali v Liston (1) in 1964 I'd rank Mike Tyson up until his meeting with James Buster Edwards as one of the greatest.


Even Ali fought many 'bums' (as you put it, not my term) like Chuck "The Bayonet Bleeder" Wepner during his long career, so I don't see that as a factor.

 

Fighting the bums as has been said is the way the system works you have to win to show you are worthy to fight the top contenders. If it was not this way any Muppet could apply to fight the world champion and potentially earn a small fortune. Something is ringing a bell here
