Exactly, Countries are already at each others throat so to speak. If the EU doesn't reform / split it will collapse through infighting. Because everyone has an equal say, there are bound to be recriminations either way. Poland blocks reform to keep the gravy money flowing or Germany / France push through a two tier system.

Interesting. I speak to quite a few french people, and have yet to find one who actually wants France to remain in.
Yet the Brits I know living over there want us in. For various reasons ranging from a wish to retain dog-passports

Obviously the EU want to a) make it look like they're being really tough on the UK to try and dissuade others from trying to leave the ailing project, meanwhile b) behind the scenes sort out an amicable deal quickly so that exports to the UK are impacted as little as possible.
Sounds like that crazy drunk Juncker has even annoyed Tusk and Merkel with his stupid statements about his meeting with May, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him taking a back seat on negotiations.

Le Pen is just not fit to govern and would be a disaster. Macron will be a disaster too, but it'll be more slow motion so it gives more time to hope for better opposition in future, maybe Fillion.
Whoever won, France was going to be the loser.

The ironic thing is Macron's policies will continue to drive more people to the far right, and it just increases the chance of a Le Pen victory in 2022.
Fillon would've probably been the best option for France. I expect if the 2nd round was him vs Len Pen it would've been an even heavier defeat for Le Pen.

France are just going to get more of the same under Macron, he was the economic advisor to Hollande after all - the most unpopular president in France's history, namely down to being unable to fulfil his economic promises. They've got 10% unemployment and 25% youth unemployment in France, with staggering unfunded liabilities due to an over generous social programme and very low retirement ages. It's an absolute recipe for disaster.
Le Pen will be be back stronger in 2022, and with more disaffected voters she might have a real chance of winning, and that will really set off the powder keg.

Even faced with the prospect of voting in a guy who's never stood for an election before in his life, and who has a suspiciously familiar smell reminiscent of a guy that over 80% of the country consistently said they wanted rid of, the French still voted 2 to 1 against having their affairs run by the spiritual descendants of the Vichy government of the 40s.

The irony is that, in voting for Macron, who is weak, they WILL get ruled by the Germans again.

Interestingly, they only post a picture of the exchange rate change for the day! If you look a little further back, you'll see the Euro has fallen to a new 6 day low!!!!

Have a look at the rate over the last month and certainly last year and compare to the rate change after the Brexit vote! All in all, the market has barely reacted to the Macron win! In fact, if you looked this morning, the Euro was first up, then it was holding, now its down - so that's a normal day when the players have been betting one way then the other to make a few quid!

Macron is not the ideal candidate for the EU, he's simply the better option of the 2 that made it into the second round. As mentioned I would've voted Macron - Le Pen is just not a credible alternative.
Nothing much will change for France however as they aren't going to be able to significantly reform their economic fortunes because they've got to use the Euro and hence cannot tweak their fiscal policy to suit their economy.
