Exactly, Countries are already at each others throat so to speak. If the EU doesn't reform / split it will collapse through infighting. Because everyone has an equal say, there are bound to be recriminations either way. Poland blocks reform to keep the gravy money flowing or Germany / France push through a two tier system.

Interesting. Young and old and from various different countries. The French election is a massive one.
If Le pen manages to overcome the very biased media, the topless liberal ****tard women protesting against a female president, and the elites portrayal of one of their own being a 'maverick' then the EU is doomed.

I think it's more '**** you' from bitter remain voters like yourself to everyone who doesn't agree with them, unfortunately.

Obviously the EU want to a) make it look like they're being really tough on the UK to try and dissuade others from trying to leave the ailing project, meanwhile b) behind the scenes sort out an amicable deal quickly so that exports to the UK are impacted as little as possible.

Sounds like that crazy drunk Juncker has even annoyed Tusk and Merkel with his stupid statements about his meeting with May, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him taking a back seat on negotiations.

So the French have voted for a pro-EU president who has vowed to make sure that the EU gets the best deal out of Brexit! Then Brexiteers are going to have a meltdown now there dreams of a collapsing EU are broken

lol! The French had 2 extremely bad choices, I'm anti-EU but given the choice, if I HAD to vote, I'd have voted for Macron.

Le Pen is just not fit to govern and would be a disaster. Macron will be a disaster too, but it'll be more slow motion so it gives more time to hope for better opposition in future, maybe Fillion.

Whoever won, France was going to be the loser.

Even if all the abstainers had voted far right it would still be 50/50

Emphatic victory for moderates and Europe reform

Hardly an 'emphatic victory'! It's the 'lesser of 2 evils'!

The ironic thing is Macron's policies will continue to drive more people to the far right, and it just increases the chance of a Le Pen victory in 2022.

Fillon would've probably been the best option for France. I expect if the 2nd round was him vs Len Pen it would've been an even heavier defeat for Le Pen.

You'd have to be pretty naive to think the beLeavers would be any different.

So why isn't this an emphatic victory given what was said after the Brexit vote (which was won/lost by a far smaller margin).

Lowest voter turn-out since 1974, huge number of blank voting cards placed - basically both candidates were unpopular, a lot of French will understandably not be happy.

France are just going to get more of the same under Macron, he was the economic advisor to Hollande after all - the most unpopular president in France's history, namely down to being unable to fulfil his economic promises. They've got 10% unemployment and 25% youth unemployment in France, with staggering unfunded liabilities due to an over generous social programme and very low retirement ages. It's an absolute recipe for disaster.

Le Pen will be be back stronger in 2022, and with more disaffected voters she might have a real chance of winning, and that will really set off the powder keg.

If that's not a glowing endorsement of Marine Le Pen's overwhelming support in the country, then I'm gonna go have myself another hit of that there bong. Stoke her up Cletus, yeeeeharr

No, they are just scared stiff of the right. They still have memories of the *****, and the lefty media does a damned good job of frightening them more.

The irony is that, in voting for Macron, who is weak, they WILL get ruled by the Germans again.

Five years from now, however.....we shall see. That's IF the EU lasts that long, because once our €billions stop arriving, they are going to be in a world of hurt.

Yeah, the Euro is really suffering today, I saw this article in the Star, all the weak £ problems are soved!
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/travel/tr...ion-Macron-win

Interestingly, they only post a picture of the exchange rate change for the day! If you look a little further back, you'll see the Euro has fallen to a new 6 day low!!!!

Here is the source of the Star's 1-day rate graphic.
http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?fr...to=EUR&view=1W
Have a look at the rate over the last month and certainly last year and compare to the rate change after the Brexit vote! All in all, the market has barely reacted to the Macron win! In fact, if you looked this morning, the Euro was first up, then it was holding, now its down - so that's a normal day when the players have been betting one way then the other to make a few quid!

I'm not sure who hates the UK more - clowns like Juncker or some of you remain voters, it's pretty disgusting to be honest.

Macron is not the ideal candidate for the EU, he's simply the better option of the 2 that made it into the second round. As mentioned I would've voted Macron - Le Pen is just not a credible alternative.

Nothing much will change for France however as they aren't going to be able to significantly reform their economic fortunes because they've got to use the Euro and hence cannot tweak their fiscal policy to suit their economy.

France lost 12,000 millionaires last year, and the exodus has been increasing.

Fleeing France
Meanwhile, France is suffering from a major exodus of rich individuals.
Over 12,000 millionaires left France last year, according to New World Wealth. In total, the country has experienced a net outflow of over 60,000 millionaires since 2000.
The authors cited religious tensions as one reason why the rich are packing their bags and moving to countries including the U.K., Canada, Australia, the U.S. and Israel.
France's sluggish economy and recent terror attacks may also be contributing to the exodus.
http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/21/pf/m...tralia-france/

Just see how things shape out for France over the next 5 years. Pretty much all Western countries are in a predicament with crippling levels of debt and huge unfunded liabilities. but France is in a particularly bad position.

I see the Leftists are already out demonstrating against Marcon en-masse in Paris.
