I'm not sure which is better built tbh. Both have pros and cons, I do know that I prefer the horizontally opposed engine and find the Evo engine note a bit flat.
For example my evo 6 can be tuned up to 380hp before the rods bend like a banana and that's probably true of an equivalent age V6 Sti or so.
But the later sti models if in good nick can take a fair old bit of tuning before a rebuild, later evo's aren't able to go past 420hp or so before grenading.
The ayc systems are a bit of a worry too.
Id swap my Evo 6 for an equivalent age Sti type ra without a thought just can't afford one!

I find there's a clique on most forums and if you don't know one or other then you don't exactly get any responses.
But because you know people or are in the clique gang, then of course there's no problem and will always back them up, as with all forums tbh.
Just choose when not to reply.

Online communities are a massive part of my ownership experience...I only have a few hours per week to physically enjoy my car, but the rest of the week I'm online to enjoy through social media. For me a good forum is definitely a big plus in a marque/model choice. The UKLegacy forum used to be pretty good.

Davey96wrx- get some pictures up
I am still impressed with my 6, especially after seeing what it'll do on track.
Only basic suspension mods, Tein springs and Whiteline rear ARB, but it seemed to feel more composed and handled better than my Newage STI which had full Whiteline kit, coilovers, AP's etc.
Power delivery is great as well .

I've got both an Evo 9 and a Blobeye STI. On a sunny morning B road blast I'd be just as happy in either they're both fantastic cars once you stop comparing and just enjoy.
The biggest gripe for me between the two is power delivery, the Scooby does have bad boost lag down low and then you get everything in a big hit, the Evo with it's twin scroll is so smooth, albeit a little less dramatic.
Anyway back on topic...

Completely agree about comparing, they are both fantastic cars. I would happily have the Newage back, and I still really want another STI Type R, but the prices are climbing so high on them.
In fact a V5/6 would still be my choice if I had the choice of any.

Nothing against them by the way, I'm sure they're great cars, just not my cuppa.

Type R has them in the looks, sound and feel good/look back factor as well as being a very decent track and road weapon, was a no brainer in the end, although that said... still sometimes think I should have gone for one of each again, but I do still love my Type R.

Both are great marques, and to be fair there can be some hostility on this forum as well.
Evos have always been slightly more expensive and now are going crazy as the Evo is no more. Like for like tests have put them so close to each other its a fairly pointless exercise getting hung up on which is better.
There are one or two owners on the south coast that drive their 5/6 like complete tools, just like what we have all seen with some scoob owners, so as others have said it happens regardless of marque.

I personally think they look sikkk from every angle to be honest how a proper rally car should look intimidating and monstrous from the factory no add-ons needed
But I for one will always stay loyal to the Subaru gods as they alwYs look after me with nice rare hard to find bits for my scoob I feel blessed
