MLR forum - hostile/unfriendly
Hi lads
To cut a long story short I went from a nice GC8 to an Evo 6 a few months back as I love both marques, never got the ridiculous hating of the other camp, felt very school playground to me.
Ive always found Scoobynet friendly and there is some banter and characters but upon buying my Evo 6 and joining the MLR I have to say what a stark difference!
Ive found members very hostile on MLR with a defined money driven 'clique' it's genuinely ruined my ownership of the Evo.
Its amazing really how a forum can have an influence as an enthusiast but it does!
Anyone else that has strayed onto the MLR found this??

I know most Internet forums contain a few idiots, but generally I've found the small community on scoobynet really good. Prior to having a subaru I had a few ford ST's and I found the fast ford forums really bad. On scoobynet most people appreciate cars generally, but on the ford forums there was a lot of hostility to anything that didn't have the ford badge on it. Plus the diesel drivers always argued with the petrol drivers, and the modified car drivers argued with non-modified car drivers. It didn't make me want to spend much time there.
And people in fords don't wave at each other.

I found most of them to be rude.they thought they were better then you kind of thing.im puttyit down to jealousy tho as one of the top evo mappers in the uk said mine was in his top 3 he has tuned in the country.it was a great car.just too full on for a daily.but I kind of wish I still had it now as my work life has changed for the better.

There's a big gulf between Impreza and Evo ownership, all you need to own a Impreza is as little as a grand, or a non turbo £500. So there's a mixed group of people on here from people owning a cheap rusty £1000 bangor of an Impreza to big build Impreza's that have had thousands spent on them.
To get on the Evo ladder you need at least £2500 for a battered old lancer. Plus used parts are every where for the Impreza. As there's alot more knocking around.

People have been saying that for years, problem is there still being imported, so supply keeps increasing. I sold my WRX classic years ago and there still selling for around the same price now, unless mint low miles.
Here's a link to my poll of how much people on here spend on there Impreza's, you can see a massive difference. https://www.scoobynet.com/1041438-ho...-so-far-3.html

Sad to hear but if I were you I'd simply delete my profile and get on with enjoying the car for what it is.

Very new here but been an active member of MLR for a few years now. I'm sorry to hear of your bad experiences on the forum but I can only repeat what many have already said. It's an excellent club and we always have very well organised stands at most shows full of very honest and friendly members.
Perhaps if you shared with me exactly who it was that pissed you off I may offer an explanation, as with any forum there are a few users who feel they know it all and look down on everyone.

Cheers for your comments lads, I mean I'm not gonna cry about it or anything just seemed a shame really.
BenR1 I don't want it to be a witch hunt but the unfriendly chap has been on their since 2001, a common problem on forums as someone said before that the ones that have been there for years are less accommodating and downright rude to anyone that isn't in the clique or that's new, gets frustrating.

Never had any issues with MLR , owned my Evo for 4 years and used the forum daily. I also bought parts and never had the slightest of issues. Good bunch of guys and super helpful with technical info.
They do seem to have a bit of a hatred for the Evo 260 tho, which is nothing less that a Tuned down FQ 300 and some interior differences, Oh and the rear spoiler.

MLR does have its fair share of pretentious ****** but there is an Evo Facebook group that is on another level when it comes to ******* idiots......They spend more time posting about Imprezas than they do Evo's!

When I was looking for an Evo a while back I joined the MLR and found them a very friendly bunch, plenty of very good advice and posts to assist with my search. I found a few know it all pillocks on there but far less than on here, plus a lot were car enthusiasts rather than badge ******.
I found the Focus RS owner's forums as well to be similar to MLR, again good advice and welcoming to new or potential owners.
The only forum I've really found hostile is Scoobynet or as it's affectionately known Scabbynet, it's not that welcoming to new owners or forum members. You will always find newbies asking the same questions, quite a few on here remark 'use the search function' rather than give advice stemming from their own experiences. Not very welcoming for a new member and sometimes bordering on the downright condescending / arrogant.

I found the same going from a Suzuki Srad to my current R1 . I'm old school , open it up and fix it , yet the R1 lot buy their replacement parts rather than fix if needed . That's why I prefer the Impreza , I could afford an evo no problem yet I don't like the scene . My Impreza gets looked after and subtly modded , yet I feel eco owners must have bling and carbon to show off

All good points Cannon Fodder!
I try to come across on forums as best I can, as if having an 'in person' conversation and some folk I think are just keyboard warriors.
Rig your absolutely right, very few on MLR build their own engines or tune their cars themselves (there are obviously some that do though), it seems they all take them to specialists all the time to perform the work.
Im exactly the same as you rig, prefer to get stuck in and have a go myself..

I must admit the interior really did put my off the car slightly, not a very nice place to be for an extended period of time not that the Impreza is particularly great either but it is better than the Evo.
