I'd use the six cylinder before even thinking about a billet block

There's no expense and there's NO EXPENSE!
Plus for me the jury is out on the billet block. I'm yet to see one be pushed as hard as OEM blocks used in cars such as RCM Gs1 Gs2, Andy Forret and the Lateral Bananba

Which of the multiple engines they had?

And how often rebuilt?

Forrest and nana not all that often RCM I cannot comment. In my opinion these are 4 of the greatest subarus out there world wide. not to mention previous cars such as my personal favourite the ZEN time attack cars. All of which run/ran enormous power in competition environment, all on OEM Block casings

Irrespective of what engine or how many engines they have, they arnt rebuilt due to block failure.

Due to ej engines being alloy, we don't get the huge weight savings other platforms do such as evos or SR20's etc

Obviously there are other benefits to billet blocks, just in my opinion they arnt really warranted on our platform

Rebuilt because they wouldnt be reliable if not.

road vs race is a very different kettle of fish as far as how they far they are pushed.

Also, i guess this is for the R205?

It's a rare special edition car, i wouldn't want to go to weird on the spec personally.

Would be shame to change the character of the car too much, I'd be thinking something high revving with unburstable feel to it.

Yes immy building a beast, is it going in 205?
Go for a 2.35 on a 22 block with 14mm it will be enough, get the smallest turbo for what you want to achieve best spool, even twinscoll it for more spool.
I believe alyn at AS does custom baffled sumps, maybe a call to him. (I'll be doing the same).

This one posts makes me want to bin the whole project....I was thinking to remove the current blouch turbo and perhaps just go for a LM400. The current turbo on it at the moment feels as though it is strangling the car at top speed and theres loads of hesitation after each gear change, but I keep thinking to myself I will end up wanting more power and might as well just go the whole hog. I could always put it in another car

The plan was or still is to put it in the 205, if I did decide to sell I can just wack the original engine back in.
You done a build to bro?

I was meaning the baffled sump.
But yes I'm going 2.1 build instead, 2.35 is too big for my needs.

EJ22 blocks fail the l/h casing mated to sequential boxes very often, the Banana split its block last year, Dale Gents race winning circuit car also, now a 2.0 thick bore scd block, a Polish drag car, all in the water crossover tube into the centre head stud area, first sign is a puddle of coolant sitting in the block webs.

Juggers.

My Borg rotated turbo set up 7064 is only a small turbo. Made 474/525 on v power at 1.7bar on my mates 2.5 engine. I'm yet to map it on my car but going 2bar plus. And on the 2.5 had full boost at 2500rpm

RCM Omega Pistons
RCM Arrow rods (Is it worth going for the M2700)
Brian Cower or Manley 83mm Billet crank
RCM Baffle sump
RCM Oil pump

Anybody got any recommendations and things to look out for?
To get back to the original question.

All of the above is fine but spendy and you don't need those for 550/550

RCM stuff is good and tested but you don't need it for target you have suggested. Standard crank is fine. There are few EJ22s knocking about for circa £1400 so I'd go that route. My drag car runs a standard crank at over 800 Bhp with no issues btw.

I have the block it's been sent for machining Andy at WMS is doing the build. He is putting together a few different spec options, but if I go billet I can increase the rod size which will give a 2.4 build?

I you want to spend for the sake of it get a billet crank. IMO 2.35 with a standard 79mm crank will be all the engine you ever need.

The RCM and AS performance baffled sumps are very similar. Alyn can do a standard or TS Sump for you.
