Finally a bit of common sense, the Lords have amended the Brexit bill to guarantee the rights of EU members living in the UK. People shouldn't be used as bargaining chips and protecting their right to remain regardless of any other agreements may be a fantastic olive branch which sets the negotiations off on the right foot!

 

What I'd like to see is a list of benefits of leaving, there must be one right?

 

Take back our sovereignty.

British jobs for British people.

Free trade with the rest of the world.

Independence.

Restore democracy.

No more unelected Eurocrats.

Brussels.

Sovereignty.

Secure borders.

Brussels.

 

All those benefits will be worth the extra cost of going it alone ,

Much will depend on how the government moves to fill the void left from leaving the single market and on the extent of the trading deal, if any, we can negotiate with the EU. Other trading deals are unlikely to greatly benefit the UK - with any large countries like US and China, we'll get the worse side of the deal as we have to fully open our doors while only getting limited access to their markets. For smaller markets like Australia or NZ, we might get the better deal, but to a relatively tiny market!

Immigration numbers are unlikely to change unless the economy rally falls on its ar$e and the current levels of immigration are required to support the levels of growth given the low birth rate of the domestic population. The only big change we'll see to immigration is likely to be less EU immigrants with similar culture to ours in favour of cheaper immigrants from poorer countries with conflicting cultures. - Although some people will see cheaper immigrant labour as one advantage to Brexit!

This is what worries me.I have no confidence in the idiots in Westminster being able to make a deal.They are the ones who have sold off many of our national reserves for a pittance (rail privatisation ?We are paying more to them than when we had British Rail).Most have little or no experience in real world trading or business.They would be better off recruiting some used car dealers to front the negotiating team.

UK politicians and the Civil Service are totally out of their depth when it comes to negotiating or investigating and everything takes about 3 times longer than it should. Witness Levison, umpteen NHS negligence claims and the latest kiddy sex thing which will take years and end when many of the abused kids will have died from old age.


Does anyone seriously expect that May's boys are going to agree anything worthwhile with 27 countries all with their own agendas in any acceptable time frame. It just ain't going to happen. It's all an effing waste of time. May is just too stupid to realise this and hasn't a clue how the world works. You may hate Blair but what he said is spot on.

Also have you ever used VAG's Erwin? Or BMW's online servicing registration...Or Subarus, or Mercedes? Allowed Independant data/diagnostics access (chargeable) and the same access level a franchise can obtain are two very different things, often to the point it's not even worth bothering with.

Personally I don't think leaving the EU would have or will make any difference to this. The French will (always) look after their own first, so if there are savings or rationalisations to be made, I'd put the UK plants at the top of the list of closures.

And who knows if there is any truth that the EU gave grants for Peugeot to set up in Slovakia and thus shut Ryton back in 2006, albeit it was for a different model?
