So Brexit seems to be a good thing then.

Hmm, is there anything in the UK that is not in short supply or crisis?

Even foreigners are in short supply

Sorry my miserable chums for not keeping you in the loop
. Been busy buying a couple of new cars for the family. We've had a fantastic year in business, with 6 figure dividends. So we decided to buy more property and are planning our move to our farm.
All the best for 2022

Winning at Brexit!
Its not just steel, but applicable to all exports. This is the real crux about why Brexit can never work in terms of getting valuable trade deals outside the EU! The UK just isn't a global player on its own, so any deals with significant other countries/blocks, will always see the UK as a the smaller party - hence we can't even get decent trade deals with Australia and New Zealand!
It wasn't supposed to be like this. After Brexit, the UK was relying on a closer relationship with the US than it had when it was part of the EU.
That's partly because in trade, size matters.
"They (the EU) are just bigger so they account for moresteel exports to the US, and that means there is more interest from US importers in getting it resolved,"
"They (the EU) are just bigger so they account for more

Even David Davies now turning on the PM telling him in PMQ's that its time to go! Its looking increasingly unlikely that Johnson will be there long enough to see the results of the inquiry into all the parties!

Shirley, they need to make sure they have a replacement candidate for Boris before they call him to resign.
TBH I see this as yet another back bench ruckus that we get time and time again. Boris's fixers will do the counting, work out who follows the whip. And if it tallies in his favour he'll likely go and do a John Major (1995) to shut them up.

After the normal post Christmas trade slump, the new customs checks on the UK side are starting to take their toll with queues as long as the channel itself!

I think the ethos here was that we don’t need to trade with Europe cos there’s the rest of the world to trade with instead !!
either that or Eu will capitulate and give us free trade or just die
could take some time ….

You're probably right. Sadly, the rest of the word now sees us as a small country with limited market opportunities, and the EU remains a sodding great trading block who can quite happily trade amongst themselves and negotiate good trade deals around the world because of their collective size.
Sounds good, eh, perhaps we should apply to join!

I thought after Brexit the UK was going to be a paradise, lower taxes, better standard of living, better place to do business, rewrite the rule book, have great trade deals, make your own rules etc.

Seems to me it is becoming the complete opposite.

Indeed. He could easily raise that by increasing the tax rate for the super wealthy, actually making sure they pay instead of offshoring stuff, and making sure large corporations don't use loopholes to avoid it. I say easily, technically it is, but obviously that would stab al his mates in the back, so he won't

NICs are limited, so any increase will affect the poorest the most while barely being noticed by the richest! Given the current cost of living crisis in the UK, somewhat self inflicted through Brexit and partly due to global supply chain issues, this is certainly one of the most unfair tax hikes for the people struggling the most while the rich just get richer! Funny how that £350 million a week couldn't pay for Corona costs!
Prices are also increasing in Germany/EU, but only due to global supply issues, gas and energy prices are only slightly up thanks to EU cost controls, food price increases are barely noticeable and at least in Germany, no tax increases.

Queues at Dover not going away any time soon as more and more British businesses suffer
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-60161094
So it turns out all those German car manufacturers would rather concentrate on other export markets than worry about Brexit damaging their UK market!
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-60161094
German exports to the rest of the EU, for example, grew by 17% in the first eleven months of last year, compared to the same period in 2020. They also rose by 18% to the US. But exports to the UK fell by 2%.

They should, but they won't be, because the very people who are affected will still be persuaded that Brexit is good for them, because they soak it up from the papers, and it allows them to vent their natural British xenophobia. Your average Joe isn't going to actually look into the realities of the claims, or the costs, or all the benefits we have lost.
