Sky definitely block content, much to my frustrations. Never had a problem with Kodi whilst using TalkTalk, but having moved to Sky Broadband I've found that somethings work once and then never again - Genesis movies is one example. On some ocassions I've tried to visit websites relating to those blocked add-ins /repos and I hit a Sky website telling me they've blocked access.

I've just left Sky for BT, bearing in mind I was with them 5 years, I've never had any issues blocking any Kodi content or XBMC as it was known before Kodi.

The reason you have issues with Genesis is because its been dead for months!

yeah I agree

I have a firestick and it is fantastic- for the price just not have ing faf around connecting laptops etc to watch Netflix / amazon prime

I have loaded/hacked Kodi - but tbh it was more of an academic exercise

as you say it is a bit hit and miss - a bit of a faf, it feels like being a student all over again

I mean if I wanted to live like a student I would have a shopping trolley full of half empty pizza boxes in my living room!!!!

Well that explains that then.

Can you suggest any reliable alternatives?

Genesis was replaced by Exodus. Phoenix is popular(basically an add on with different sections) also for movies M4U and 123 Movies.

Well - BT is being installed this week, and we have had no phone calls from Sky. With the deal I have got from BT (and faster fibre), I am not going to chase Sky for a discount. If they want to call they can, but I think it is unlikely now!

If anyone wants a little freebie for their Android phone or Tablet, then download an IPTV app from the Playstore and I'll send you over a URL to bring it to life

I found lots of info online about ISP's blocking content when Op Robocop stopped working. Also found a lot of companies selling VPN's for them, why do they exist if no one is blocking anything?

It's not attitude it's that you're comment is based on something you read on the Internet, mine is based on first hand experience. I've nothing to prove a such, I'm not a Kodi developer or an add on developer, I just take advantage of what these guys offer.

As I said, I'f someone wants something that is more reliable than the free add ons they can opt for a paid service which ranges from £5-£12 a month.

All sorted today

Called up BT today and after 30 mins managed to cancel a few extra services like call barring etc which don't work anyway and then adding the BT TV Entertainment + package , I am now sorted with BT for sports, 108 channels, BT fibre etc and all for £15 a month cheaper

Then I have a fully loaded Fire stick arriving which will fill the gap left by removing Sky which was the next phone call. I was dreading that one as I have heard they make it so hard but 15 mins later , after several pleas to stay by reducing my bill, I am now free from Sky TV in 30 days time. So a saving of over £80 a month .

Now all I need to do is to watch all those bloody recordings on my sky box

BTW if you are thinking of leaving Sky and can't be bothered to go through all the crap, just tell them you are moving abroad. Job done in about 5 mins

Bit after the event, but I cancelled Sky a couple of years ago.

These days I use a Roku as my media player as it supports Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play, and NowTV and through a single, decent interface. I have the Roku 3's @ £99, but you could just as easily use the cheaper Roku 2 or Roku Stick for a fair bit cheaper.

My TV supports recording to USB, so I just used an old 500GB SATA disk I had laying around + a USB to SATA adapter - that gives me live pause. I don't record programs as between iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, 5 On Demand and the above paid-for services I simply don't need to!

Monthly costs are £6/m for Netflix £5/m for the Entertainment Pass on NowTV, and one-off costs for films or TV series on Google Play. I don't have Sports, and movies I generally rent through the Xbox as that gives a 1080p stream.

I have saved literally hundreds by cancelling Sky, and I can still watch series like GoT when released without having to resort to piracy.

I binned off Sky just over a year ago and bought a Mut@nt HD2400 box. Runs openVIX and has twin sat tuners as well as a Freeview tuner so there's potential to record 2 channels and watch another or record 3 channels at once.

Great box with a superb EPG; infinitely flexbile since it's Linux in the background. I've put a 1TB HDD in it for recordings which are accessible over my home network.

We get all the channels we really need and it's pretty much wife-proof. I do have a Firestick and a few Pi's for other stuff too

Can't fault mine. Live sports can be hit and miss to be honest, but for movies and TV series it's fantastic.
