I just wonder how long into the future we can trade on heritage and being some stable for foreigners to stash their cash .
Saw program few nights ago ,some Beijing estate agents flogging off London and now Brighton - 800 % increase in interest just this last 12 months ..
Couple months ago dropped girlfriends daughter/family Heathrow . They were clingfilming bags , cos they were bound for S.A. .. In the queue were some dainty Chinese ladies ready to wrap their newly purchased goods in Selfridges cardboard carrier bags - 30 quid each
Couldn't believe it , maybe they contained diamonds - more likely some heritage tat
God only knows how the ordinary uk folk will survive / what the place will look like in another 25 years/ generation time

Andy: don't fall for the left-wing bull**** about cheap Chinese steel. It's NOT subsidised either.
There is just EXPENSIVE UK steel, cuased by higher energy prices, green taxes, eco-add-ons etc etc.
If we were no longer in the EU we could get rid of most of the problems, and ours would be cheaper.
VOTE OUT ON THE 23rd!!!

Steel imported from China, amounts of which are very limited, has little to do with the predicament of the UK’s steel industry. In both volume and value, steel from China makes up only a fraction of the UK’s total steel imports.
In 2015, for example, of the UK’s 6.66m tons of imports, only 11pc, or 760,000 tons, were from China. If put in value, that was $457m, only 7.6pc of the $5.98bn total. Moreover, steel products from China are mostly low value-added, such as ordinary steel rods and plates, which Britain no longer makes and would have to import from other countries anyway.
Therefore, imports from China have no impact upon the British steel market.

According to this they are burning an awful lot of (dirty) lignite topped up by normal coal (and a steady stream of gas). Another big chunk is nuclear, but that is being phased out (after the panic about Fukushima).

Because THEY don't follow every EU rule/law or whatever unless it benefits THEM, plus the Paris agreement allows them to PAY for someone to have part of THEIR emissions quota, allowing them to emit more, while the country gaining their emissions and some cash, can emit less....and guess who are the suckers? yep...UK plc.
